How crazy is this?

Is Borealis totally off the wall? Or is there a possibility it could work? It lends itself to nicknames [name]Bo[/name], [name]Ali[/name], and [name]Alis[/name], and [name]Aurora[/name] is fairly common- so thoughts on Borealis?

I can see the appeal but I dont know how well it translates into a name.

It has a nice sound but I don’t think it would work well as a name in the real world. She will undoubtedly be called Bore or Boring at some point.

It’s less of a human name and more of something you’ll learn about in science class.

I agree with the potential teasing nicknames, but it could be really cool as a mn.

Agreed. I can’t help but think of the boys’ name, [name]Boris[/name], too. It strikes me as more masculine than feminine (especially with nn options like [name]Bo[/name]/[name]Beau[/name], [name]Al[/name], [name]Alex[/name] (more of a stretch, but still usable), and [name]Boris[/name])…

I agree it could be cool as a middle name!

No way. I hear bore. I think [name]Aurora[/name] is much more sensible and attractive.

If misheard, it sounds like “Boring [name]Alice[/name]”. I like [name]Aurora[/name] better, same idea.

I personally wouldn’t do it, it’s just way too out there…

If I met a little girl named Borealis, I’d think her parents were trying way too hard. Stick with [name]Aurora[/name].

I agree with both of these. It’s already been mentioned but she will undoubtedly be called Boring.

Thanks everyone! [name]Aurora[/name]'s not my thing. It’s nice enough, but a bit Disney-princess for my taste. Borealis is also part of a few star names, which I really like, and of course I love the aurora borealis phenomenon.
When a solar storm occurs, the sun emits superheated plasma, which then travels to earth. Instead of killing us, the particles are deflected to the poles by the earth’s magnetic field, reacting with charged particles in the atmosphere and creating the aurora borealis. I think that’s such a beautiful idea, and a beautiful source of a name, but perhaps Borealis is best reserved for the middle.

just a bump
