Here you can share how you named your precious daughter and give tips to others needing help!
[name_f]My[/name_f] daughter is named [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and I call her both of those names. When my ex-husband and I were planning on baby names we only had one criteria: simplicity. [name_f]My[/name_f] ex was born in Serbia, and he anglicized the spelling of his last name to be phonetic, so it wasn’t very common in the US. It has many hard consonants (r, k, and v) so we decided on a short and sweet name so it could have a better flow. We originally decided on the first name [name_f]Emma[/name_f] because the name [name_f]Ema[/name_f] is very popular in Serbia so it would work for both of her cultures, it fit well with our first names (Kathryn and Boris) and the more we looked into it the better it got. It’s in classic literature, has multiple actress namesakes, and has a beautiful meaning. We got the middle name [name_f]Claire[/name_f] because of irony. She was born on a cloudy night and my ex had remarked how this experience would be perfect if the weather was nice and then jokingly suggested we give her the middle name of [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]. After some back and forth we settled on [name_f]Claire[/name_f], which means clear. This worked exceptionally well as my ex was raised in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and grew up learning [name_u]French[/name_u] in school. So, if anybody needs help coming up with a name, check the weather.
Our Daughter was named [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_m]Cole[/name_m].
When we found out it was a girl both my husband and I had a short list of what name we wanted and both of us thought [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. However after some back and forth we picked [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] because 1.) we didn’t know any Carolina’s but knew a few Caroline’s 2.) we thought [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] would be easier to spell as [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] has some other accepted spellings 3. ) We took a family trip to [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] [name_u]Beach[/name_u] a month before she was born so we made some beautiful family memories there 4.) our son was adamant against a [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] because of [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_m]Crane[/name_m] … he said “ she is a baby mom not equipment”
[name_m]Cole[/name_m] is also sentimental as my moms name [name_f]Colleen[/name_f] but she hated her name and didn’t want us to use it. I figured [name_m]Cole[/name_m] could honour her and still use the majority of her name.
[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I were also introduced by a mutual friend named [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] who we call [name_u]Coley[/name_u]. So it felt like the right name to give our daughter as we wouldn’t be here without these 2 wonderful women
I don’t know that I should post here just yet since we don’t have children yet but the way I chose my top girl name was to think about the qualities I would hope she embodies as she grows into maturity (traits like charity, wisdom, strength, courage, grace) and then did deep dives to find unique names that suited my taste and embodied those elements and hopes for her future character. That helped me! I don’t have really any sentimental names or connections I’d want to use, though, so that knocked out most of those for me.
Not sharing the names though
@Ehrob1 I wish I could steal [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_m]Cole[/name_m] from you! my extended family is from [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] and I consider it a second home of sorts. I have an aunt and cousin named [name_f]Colleen[/name_f] and they pronounce it “Co-leen” vs “Call-een”.
But alas, [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] is likely out for us because we have a US city last name lol.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] love love this for your little girl though!
Thank you ! I LOVE her name. She is affectionately called [name_f]Cece[/name_f] !
[name_f]My[/name_f] daughter is adopted and her name is a combination of a name I have her and the name her first mama gave her. Her birth mom named her [name_f]Bella[/name_f] and I gave her the name [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. It honestly came to me somewhat out of nowhere! It hadn’t been on any of the lists I’d been making for decades. But just a few weeks before my daughter was born (when I had no idea of her) I watched a video online and there was a little girl named [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. I was instantly struck by how adorable it was and when I looked up the meaning I was even more charmed. Then my daughter was born and she was the absolute happiest baby ever - she even used to giggle in her sleep! It was a perfect fit - and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Bella[/name_f] suits her perfectly.
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Bella[/name_f] is a gorgeous combination!
