Okay, berries, I’ve come to the decision that I want to start introducing myself by a nickname.
You can change your FB name to include a nickname or maiden name in parentheses. Ex: [name]Juliana[/name] ([name]Julie[/name]) [name]Smith[/name]-[name]Jones[/name]. You’re limited in how often you can make name changes on FB, so do a quick search in “help” and see what it says. That should pretty much take care of any future FB friends. As for existing friends, they’ll want to know what the change is about. [name]Just[/name] tell them. Most will still probably call you [name]Shannon[/name], as will family, because that is what they know you as. Be ok with that and start introducing yourself to new people as [name]Sallie[/name]. No explanation needed about it - it’s a common nickname.

It just sounds strange to me to choose your own nickname. Everyone I know has gotten their nickname in a very organic way, where it just evolved over time. This sounds very forced. I can guarantee that a number of your friends are going to find you making up your own nickname and announcing it very weird.
