What do you think of using [name_m]Glendon[/name_m] or Glennon as a way to honor my grandpa, [name_u]Glenn[/name_u]? Would just using [name_u]Glenn[/name_u] be better?
I have also thought about adding [name_m]Lennox[/name_m] or [name_m]Lennon[/name_m] to my list but I’m not sure that the connection (lenn) is enough. Any other ideas?
I think [name_m]Glendon[/name_m] or [name_m]Lennox[/name_m] could work. You could use a name with similar meaning? [name_u]Glen[/name_u]/[name_u]Glenn[/name_u] means “narrow valley,” so you could potentially use…
[name_u]Arden[/name_u] “valley of the eagle”
[name_m]Duvall[/name_m] “of the valley”
[name_u]Camden[/name_u] “winding valley”
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] “hollow valley”
[name_m]Percival[/name_m] “pierces the valley”
[name_m]Loudon[/name_m] “from the low valley”
[name_m]Talbot[/name_m] “command of the valley”
[name_m]Walden[/name_m] “valley of the Welsh”
[name_m]Marsden[/name_m] “boudary valley”
[name_m]Tilden[/name_m] “fertile valley”
I like [name_u]Glenn[/name_u] as a middle name. You could also wait for a girl to honor your grandpa and name her [name_f]Glenda[/name_f] or [name_f]Glenna[/name_f].
The [name_m]Roman[/name_m] [name_u]Galen[/name_u] first springs to mind.
Or you could try the G-[name_m]Lennon[/name_m]/x pattern i.e.[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] [name_m]Lennon[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] [name_m]Lennox[/name_m] etc.
If you want modern, I think [name_m]Lennox[/name_m] or [name_m]Lennon[/name_m] are your best bets. [name_m]Glendon[/name_m] has a made up feel. You could also shorten [name_u]Glenn[/name_u] to [name_u]Glen[/name_u], which might look more appealing.
For a girl I think [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] or [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] would work nicely.
oiseau - I like the idea of using a name with a similar meaning. From the list, I like [name_u]Arden[/name_u], [name_u]Camden[/name_u], [name_m]Holden[/name_m], and [name_m]Walden[/name_m]. [name_m]Percival[/name_m], [name_m]Talbot[/name_m], [name_m]Marsden[/name_m], and [name_m]Tilden[/name_m] are interesting too. Thanks for looking them up.
taliesin - Thanks. If I ever have another boy and it doesn’t feel right as a fn, I will definitely consider it as a mn.
knelli - I have thought about [name_f]Glenda[/name_f] and [name_f]Glenna[/name_f] for a girl. I think I like [name_f]Glenna[/name_f] a little more than [name_f]Glenda[/name_f]. Thanks for reminding me about those.
elea - I like [name_u]Galen[/name_u]. I’m going to add it to my list. Thanks.
emsky - Thanks. I love the idea of using [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] for a girl to honor my grandpa. I used to work with a lady named [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] and I have good memories of her.
saracita00 - Thanks. Your description of the name [name_u]Glenn[/name_u] has made me like it even more.
If anyone else has anything to add, I would love to read your comments.
I don’t think [name_u]Glenn[/name_u] is too dated to use. [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], [name_f]Brynn[/name_f], and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] are all trendy at the moment, so I don’t think [name_u]Glenn[/name_u] is too out there. It would be a great middle name if you aren’t sold on it. Is you grandpa’s surname more to your liking? Middle name?
I do like [name_u]Galen[/name_u], but it’s a bit of a stretch to me. I think dropping an “n” and spelling it [name_u]Glen[/name_u] actually makes it a touch more modern.
I am adding a vote for [name_u]Glen[/name_u], spelled this way. I do like [name_m]Lennon[/name_m] or [name_m]Le[/name_m].nox more though, I feel like your boy would appreciate either of those names more in terms of his peers. [name_f]Do[/name_f] the yell three times out the back door and in the kitchen test - its up to you if yelling [name_u]Glen[/name_u]!!! Feels right.
