How do I pronounce this?

[name]How[/name] do you pronounce, what I assume to be a nickname, AIDY?
Thanks for any advice Mamas!

If it’s English, AY-dee.
It’s probably a nickname for [name]Aidan[/name]/[name]Aiden[/name].
Or, since we’re in the Girl [name]Baby[/name] Names forum, a feminine form?

Thanks Paprika!
I want to name my daughter-to-be [name]Adeline[/name] but do not want to have a normal nickname like [name]Addy[/name]. I want something more unique, like her older sister’s name, [name]Imogen[/name].

Aidy, to me, would be more like eye-dee? [name]One[/name] of my little girls at work is [name]Aida[/name], pronounced eye-da, so that’s where I’m getting it from.

As for a nickname for [name]Adeline[/name], maybe try [name]Lina[/name] or [name]Della[/name] / [name]Delle[/name]?

I see eye-dee, as well.
I like [name]Adeline[/name]! The nicknames [name]Lina[/name] and [name]Delle[/name] could work, like flick suggested, or [name]Adele[/name]. Maybe even [name]Elle[/name] or [name]Ellie[/name]??

I’d say ‘ay-dee’ like [name]Sadie[/name] but without the ‘s’. It’s a nickname for [name]Aidan[/name] over here.

Aidy is so sweet as a nickname for [name]Adeline[/name]! I would definitely say ay-dee. There’s an actress on [name]Saturday[/name] [name]Night[/name] Live, Aidy [name]Bryant[/name] with that name, I can’t find her full name though.

I would say AY-dee. I know of a woman named [name]Adrienne[/name], nn [name]Adie[/name] (AY-dee), and I figured Aidy was just a different spelling, trying to get to the same sound. EYE-dee would have been my second thought–not because of [name]Aida[/name] (I think of the opera [name]Aida[/name], ah-EE-dah, instead), but because of [name]Lorelai[/name], where “ai” sounds like “eye” rather than “ay”. I think it’s a bit of a stretch for [name]Adeline[/name], since it’s the [name]ADD[/name] sound in the name rather than the AID sound, but it’s still cute. I agree that something like [name]Adele[/name]/[name]Delle[/name]/[name]Della[/name]/[name]Lina[/name] (or even something like [name]Didi[/name] or [name]Lili[/name]) would be a bit unexpected for [name]Adeline[/name].
