How do pronounce Lena? Helena?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you pronounce the name [name_f]Lena[/name_f], [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-na [name_m]Len[/name_m]-ah or Lain-a? [name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering because heard pronounced [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-na and [name_m]Len[/name_m]-ah before

I pronounce [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-na and I go between pronouncing [name_f]Helena[/name_f] He-lay-nah and He-leh-nah

I love [name_f]Lena[/name_f] and [name_f]Helena[/name_f]! I go back and forth between [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-ah and heh-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-nah for [name_f]Helena[/name_f], depending on the day and mood, and it’s generally either [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-nah or [name_m]LAY[/name_m]-nah for me, again, depending on the mood (and what name I’m usually using it as a nn for). For [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] (which is on my list) and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] (which could be) and [name_f]Helena[/name_f], I would say [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-nah, but for [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f], etc., I would say [name_m]LAY[/name_m]-nah. If [name_f]Lena[/name_f] was a standalone, I’d probably use [name_m]LAY[/name_m]-nah for that, too. I love both.

In English: [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-na and [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-a

I have a friend whose name is pronounced [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-NA

I had a friend whose mum’s name is [name_f]Lena[/name_f] pn. [name_m]LAY[/name_m]-nuh. And I prefer the sound of that to the others. There was a girl in my year called [name_f]Leena[/name_f] said how it looks. I say [name_f]Helena[/name_f] as HEL-uh-nuh. I actually prefer Heh-lay-nuh, but have it spelled on my list as Helaina.

I’d probably pronounce it [name_m]LAY[/name_m]-nah, but [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-nah also makes sense to me. I say HELL-uh-nah.

This is tough for me…
My first instinct was lay-na, but then I thought it’s more likely lee-na.
I’d say HEL-en-a

I would pronounce [name_f]Lena[/name_f] lee-nah, every [name_f]Lena[/name_f] I’ve met has pronounced it that way. I didn’t even know there was another pronunciation before I joined Nameberry. I would instinctively pronounce [name_f]Helena[/name_f] as HEL-uh-nah, like [name_f]Helen[/name_f] with “ah” on the end, the way [name_f]Helena[/name_f] Bonham [name_u]Carter[/name_u] pronounces it. I’ve heard multiple pronunciations for it though so wouldn’t be sure either way.

I say Leh-na. I’ve known two Helenas and both pronounced it Hul-AY-na (one was English as well), but I think [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-a sounds good as well.

[name_f]Lena[/name_f]: [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-na or [name_m]LAY[/name_m]-na
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]: heh-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-na

All Lenas I know use the [name_u]LEE[/name_u] -na pronunciation. That has molded my own pronunciation, but I love [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-na
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] is a name we are considering for Dec. due, baby’s 2nd name - I usually say Heh-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-na. I have been trying to change to HEL ena which I like even more, so there is no ‘lay’ vowel to rhyme with our surname. Since it is variable, we are most likely but sadly, not going choose that as her second name. So my answer is - its variable for both - but [name_u]LEE[/name_u] -na and He-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-na seem to be dominant.

[name_u]Lee[/name_u]-na
Hel-ee-na

The two women I know named [name_f]Helena[/name_f] both go by [name_f]Lena[/name_f]. Both pronounced [name_m]Len[/name_m]-a or He-len-a.

I thought that was the so called correct pronunciation but reading the thread it isn’t so obvious haha.

In regards to the pronunciation [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-na the woman I know with that name spells it [name_f]Lina[/name_f].

[name_f]Lena[/name_f] = [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-na. [name_f]Helena[/name_f] = [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-a. [name_f]Elena[/name_f] = E-lay-na.

I have always heard them as [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-na and Hell-Ay-na

I pr it [name_m]Len[/name_m]-ah and heh-len-ah.

[name_m]Lay[/name_m] nuh or [name_u]Lee[/name_u] nuh. I would have to ask. I say Huh lay nuh.

[name_f]Lena[/name_f] pronounced [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-nuh is one of my favorite names. I hadn’t known anyone to pronounce it differently until I was on nameberry, but I guess lee-nuh and leh-nuh are also legitimate pronunciations. I typicaly think of [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-nuh as [name_f]Lina[/name_f] though.
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] I go back and forth between huh-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-nuh and HEL-en-uh because I have known people who have used both.

[name_f]Lena[/name_f] = [name_m]Len[/name_m]-uh
[name_f]Laina[/name_f] = [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-nuh

[name_f]Helena[/name_f] = [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-uh (same as [name_f]Helen[/name_f] but with an -uh ending)
