[name_u]Connelly[/name_u] is a name that popped up at the last minute (currently in prodromal labor ) as a strong contender for a middle name. I was honestly surprised my husband liked it as much as he did. However, I haven’t found much on it being used as a boy’s name. It seems people either put it in the “too surname-y” category or prefer it as a girl’s name.
I also had been pronouncing it con-ehl-ee, but now looking at it I wonder if some people pronounce it con-nelly?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] is an acceptable middle name for a boy? [name_u]Or[/name_u] not a fan of it at all? What about [name_u]Conley[/name_u] as an alternative? [name_u]Conley[/name_u] give me more “being conned” associations than [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] does though.
Wishing you all the best with your imminent arrival!
I think [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] (I also use your pronunciation) works really well. He feels fashionable, literary, preppy and distinguished. I also think that most names can work in the middle spot. Middle names are your opportunity to go a bit wild use a name that’s more daring so [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] feels a bit mainstream. I think [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] over [name_u]Conley[/name_u] but both names I do not associate with being ‘conned’.
I think [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] is cool I also like how you get the nickname CeCe.
I like your other ideas too [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] [name_m]Malachy[/name_m] feels very wind swept and handsome. [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] feels cosy and warm. Finally [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is handsome and strong.
[name_u]Connelly[/name_u] is great! I think con-ehl-ee would be the standard pronunciation. It has the distinguished [name_u]Con[/name_u]- first syllable & fits right in with the current surnames as given names trend, so is 100% acceptable. I much prefer [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] to [name_u]Conley[/name_u].
[name_u]Clyde[/name_u] [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] is very handsome; an unexpected choice that feels preppy and vintage. He sounds like he could be the lead detective in a classic film noir mystery, which I think is very cool. I like [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] and [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] from your list as well
I think it makes a brilliant middle! Plus, it’s similar enough in sound/vibe to [name_u]Connor[/name_u], [name_m]Conrad[/name_m], [name_u]Avery[/name_u], [name_u]Cory[/name_u], [name_m]Cole[/name_m], [name_u]Oakley[/name_u], [name_u]Colby[/name_u] etc that it doesn’t sound too out there.
[name_u]Clyde[/name_u] [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] sounds cool! I like [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] too, and [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
I use your same pronunciation and actually used to know a man named this! He wore it just fine. Maybe because of that association, but I’ve never thought that it wouldn’t work as a boy’s name.
Native US, midwestern dialect and I’d say Con-uhl-lee on first blush. I personally love most surnames as firsts/middles so I think it’s a great choice!
Otherwise, I’d probably go with [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] or [name_m]Theodore[/name_m].
Best wishes for delivery! Prodromal can be a beast!
I always thought of [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] as a boy name. I think it could easily be used, as a FN or MN. If I were to meet a little boy named [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] (sadly I never have), my thought would be that he has a very nice name.
Also, I love the combo of [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] [name_u]Connelly[/name_u]. It just flows so naturally and for some reason calls up images of cowboys and the wild west.
I really like it, including on a boy, and hard no concerns about its sounding close to “conned” nor any pronunciation confusion (I think almost everyone will say it that way you do).
I find [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] to be jaunty and smart - with my main associations being [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] and [name_u]Billy[/name_u] [name_u]Connolly[/name_u]. I prefer it to [name_u]Conley[/name_u].
A similar name I like is [name_m]Conall[/name_m], and depending on your last name this could potentially flow better into your last name with [name_u]Clyde[/name_u].
Your other choice are also fab - admittedly, I’m not the biggest [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] fan (prefer [name_u]Max[/name_u] alone) but it does work with [name_u]Clyde[/name_u].
[name_u]Connelly[/name_u] isn’t bad (It has a sweet meaning). I wouldn’t have thought of it for a girl. I’d proniunce it con-uh-lee (I’m not sure what syllable I’d put emphasis on, probably the first). None of them give me any “being conned” associations, but [name_u]Conley[/name_u] would seem more likely, for other people (and [name_u]Conley[/name_u] seems more suited for a girl).
I’m not really sure how I feel about [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] [name_u]Connelly[/name_u]. [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] might be the best combo.
I think it makes a great middle name! I like both [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] and [name_u]Conley[/name_u], but my favourite would be [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u]. Best of luck with the birth
i loveee clyde connelly—what a cool, handsome, and truly one-of-a-kind name!
if you worry that the “nelly” part makes it seem too feminine, maybe you’d prefer the spellings connolly or connally, both of which are legitimate anglicized versions of the same original name
I love it but I have positive vibes for it. [name_f]My[/name_f] dad had a best friend and that was his surname. I love surnames!! I like the fact it is not a common name. [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] is so handsome!!!
I think it work great as a middle name for a boy! I don’t think there is much to worry about with middle names since most people don’t learn about the middle names of others anyway. [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] doesn’t really established as a girl’s name either, so I think that makes totally fair game for either gender I pronounce it how you do
I really like [name_u]Connelly[/name_u]! Although I do tend to like surnames for boy names I think it works really well as a middle name! I like the [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] spelling more than [name_u]Conley[/name_u]. I feel like I would say them differently? [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] being con-ell-ee and [name_u]Conley[/name_u] being con-lee
[name_u]Clyde[/name_u] [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] is definitely my favorite! [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] would be my next choice
