Last night my husband and I were watching The [name_m]Prince[/name_m] of [name_u]Egypt[/name_u] (we love cartoons/musicals, yes we’re basically five-year-olds…), and I told him that I like the name [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], but would not be able to use it because our last name starts with an M (I’m fine with the alliteration, but not with the M at the end of the name and start of the last name). I said I would maybe use [name_u]Marian[/name_u], because it’s similar sounding, but I don’t love it, and he suggested [name_f]Miri[/name_f]. I’m a little surprised, but I actually really like it! I know it’s more of a nick-namey name, but that isn’t really a deal breaker for me. I already like a lot of short and/or nick-namey names. [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u] (which was originally just going to be a nickname for [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], but I’m kind of liking it on its own now), [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f], and a few others. I’ve just never heard of a person named [name_f]Miri[/name_f] before. Is it too out there, or would it be ok to use?
I really like [name_f]Miri[/name_f]. It’s a bit too nicknamey for me but I think it could work. I like it best as a nickname for [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f], though.
@meyera4
I’m torn on really nick-namey names. I’ve been a [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] since I was a baby, but I kind of always liked being able to be [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] if I felt like it. I looked at all the Mir- names nameberry has, and I don’t super love any of them (mirabelle is nice, just not really my style ). . I would maybe use [name_f]Mira[/name_f], but it isn’t any longer than [name_f]Miri[/name_f], so it seems kind of silly to give that as the full name, if that makes sense.
I think it’s a cute name but there’s a movie a called “[name_m]Zack[/name_m] and [name_f]Miri[/name_f] Make a Porno” and I feel like that just ruins it.
It’s not my style as a nickname but unusable as a full name
[name_f]Miri[/name_f] is really cute for a nn for [name_f]Miranda[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Mira[/name_f] seems more like a full name than [name_f]Miri[/name_f] even though they’re both only 4 letters. [name_f]Mira[/name_f] might age better.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is shorter than nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f].
Regardless, [name_f]Miri[/name_f] is adorable and I love [name_m]Prince[/name_m] of [name_u]Egypt[/name_u].
[name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Amira[/name_f]?
I tried looking for other names to use it as a nickname for… Maybe [name_f]Miren[/name_f], but I think I like [name_f]Maren[/name_f] better (but don’t like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or [name_f]Mari[/name_f]…). [name_f]Mira[/name_f] is ok, but I like a lot of other names that end with an a. I do worry about it not aging well, but I feel like [name_f]Miri[/name_f] doesn’t sound super childish like some other nicknamey things people have named their babies recently…
I do kind of like [name_f]Amira[/name_f] nn [name_f]Miri[/name_f]. I also just found [name_f]Samira[/name_f]. They’re both beautiful names, but I’m not sure how well they would fit in with the others on my list.
I like it and think it’s fine as a first name.
