Yay or nay?
For me, its a dog’s name. My dad has a dog callendar [name_u]Murphy[/name_u], and I’ve known another two or three, but I’ve never met a personally called [name_u]Murphy[/name_u].
Nay. I agree with previous poster. It’s either a dog name or a surname.
I’ve actually met quite a few [name_u]Murphy[/name_u]'s in Atlantic [name_f]Canada[/name_f], so for me it’s a great name. It is probably used as a FN when it is a family surname, but this seems to be a modern trend to me anyways.
I’ve known both make and female Murphys, believe it or not.
Right as I’m reading this, a mom near me calls out to her son “Murph”. I’m not a fan but it’s usable
I don’t like it. I’m not really sure why, but it just has zero appeal to me.
I don’t like it, really - it’s okay on a pet, but I’m not sure I could see it on a human.
I love it. A contributing factor: it’s a family name. It has a nice Irish lilt much like [name_u]Clancy[/name_u], and isn’t much different than [name_u]Murray[/name_u] or [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. I don’t see it as a dogs’ name at all.
Nay, I’ve met one too many dogs named [name_u]Murphy[/name_u] and while I love Irish names & surnames this one just doesn’t work for me. I can’t put my finger on exactly why I don’t like this name when I usually love Irish surnames, but I don’t like it.
I never like [name_u]Murphy[/name_u] until I looked at the meaning… ‘sea warrior’ now I am a little bit in love with it, I think it’s super cute even if it falls more into the middle name category for me!
I don’t see the dog thing at all; [name_u]Murphy[/name_u] seems like an very human name to give your dog (especially in the age of naming humans [name_m]Fox[/name_m], [name_m]Apollo[/name_m], [name_m]Zeus[/name_m], [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], [name_m]Wolfe[/name_m], [name_u]Blue[/name_u] and other previously solely dog names). I personally love [name_u]Murphy[/name_u] and see no issue with it! I think it would be adorable on a little boy, and really refreshing.
Sorry, but personally I associate it with [name_u]Murphy[/name_u]'s [name_m]Law[/name_m] which is to negative for a little baby to handle. I also know many people with the last name [name_u]Murphy[/name_u] and so for me it would be a big fat NO.
I like [name_u]Murphy[/name_u]! I tried to sell it to my husband but no dice. Another name I like along the same line is [name_m]Morris[/name_m].
I like it. I meet a lot of dogs called [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], but that doesn’t make them dog names. Come on, people.
