I do think my taste is similar to those of other berries! Most berries tend to like vintage-y names, like I do, and adventurous middles, like I do. However I think my vintage names are a bit more obviously vintage than most berriesā ([name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] and [name_u]Lionel[/name_u] instead of [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m], for example) and my adventurous middles a tiiiiny bit more adventurous (things like [name_f]Honey[/name_f], [name_u]Ocean[/name_u], [name_u]Brave[/name_u] and [name_f]Amaranth[/name_f] alongside more common nameberry āābraveāā middles like [name_u]Fox[/name_u], [name_m]Bear[/name_m], [name_u]Wilder[/name_u] etc)
Other: my taste in names is often not typical berry because it includes many non-[name_f]English[/name_f] names that donāt really fit in with the popular names here.
These questions are so interesting! Thanks for putting this together, @almostactually. It was actually kind of hard to pick but overall I think I have some more modern/trendy favourites than a typical berry, and fewer vintage, old fashioned favourites.
Yes! I was considering adding in some questions about origin, but I decided to keep to generic questions. I know there are a few Berries who have a distinct taste in names because of cultural or religious ties or a country of origin thatās not typical for the standard [name_u]Berry[/name_u] taste.
I think my taste is pretty in tune to nameberry taste, although I have more gender neutral or traditionally feminine boys names I like. I have seen this become more common on nameberry lately though.
I generally get positive comments in rating threads which makes me think itās pretty on trend here! Definitely more out there than normal naming trends, but not so out there that (most) people would think it is weird.
I do like a lot of names I donāt see much on here though, they just donāt usually make my UC!
Iād say the names I like are vintage, international (mostly European), nature, or any mix of the three
I think my style is a lot different than the typical style. With my boys I think I have a more modern gothic feel to it with a mix of femininity (I think Iām explaining that right). [name_f]My[/name_f] girls are more dark ethereal with mixes of nature and Spanish names (again, I think Iām explaining that right).
I categorise my names in two categories:
1- more common and more traditional than [name_u]Berry[/name_u] style ([name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f] etc.)
2- much rarer, much older and much more unconventional than [name_u]Berry[/name_u] style ([name_f]Ermentrude[/name_f], [name_f]Philophrosyne[/name_f] etc.)
These were fun! [name_f]My[/name_f] taste is pretty close to typical [name_u]Berry[/name_u] taste but veers towards being more old fashioned or clunky. I tend to fall out of love with names the more popular or trendy they become, but there are some classics I will always love. I also like or admire a lot of different styles even if they arenāt my thing.
My partner has become a bit of a name nerd too so itās fun bouncing ideas off of him. Our tastes are pretty similar, but he also likes girl names that are a little more femme than I do, and more adventurous boy names. He even suggested [name_m]Casimir[/name_m] and [name_m]Llewelyn[/name_m] to his friend who recently had their baby! They went with [name_m]William[/name_m]
I would say my taste is a little safer than the typical berryās ā I donāt tend to go for the wildly unique or the word names. But itās definitely less trendy than the average Americanās ā I prefer names that are more classic/timeless.
I feel like I always have the opposite opinion of most everyone else on here. I think itās because I like more popular names. I donāt even know. Maybe Iām just naturally contrary.
I put less common and other. I think my taste is pretty similar to the typical nameberry style⦠not sure if less common was the right description. [name_f]My[/name_f] main difference is that I love vintage nicknames as full names where I find most berries prefer the ttadition long form then use the nickname.
E.g. I prefer stand alone - [name_u]Reggie[/name_u], [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], [name_u]Lenny[/name_u], [name_u]Sid[/name_u], [name_f]Ginny[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f]
My taste is definitely not the typical nameberry style⦠Iām much āsaferā with my choices and like more common names. I used to be more adventurous but then I became a teacher and I think that changed my taste. Common names are safer for me to like because there are more associations to distract me from some of my more⦠difficult kids. If a challenging student has a unique name it stands out to me more and taints the name.
The first poll is so hard for me to answer. I feel like Iām still not sure what a ātypical berryā name style would look like. For example I consider [name_f]Ruthie[/name_f], [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] and [name_f]Eurydice[/name_f] to all be very [name_u]Berry[/name_u]-esqueā¦even though theyāre 3 different styles. So idk which category to think of when I see ātypical berryā
My style is far from the typical [name_u]Berry[/name_u] style, even though it includes a few [name_u]Berry[/name_u] favourites.
Note: I had to ask someone about this recently so this is the best I can do. [name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to give your opinions on my style if you want⦠Iām not great at figuring the descriptors like this in the least.
