How do you feel about Llewyn Rose?

Trying to come up with a girls name that has some history, that is different and doesn’t sound too weird. Her brothers have more modern surnames ([name_u]Tatum[/name_u] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] & [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]). My husband and I have come up with a lot of traditional names, but I’m a huge fan of Llewyn [name_m]Davis[/name_m] and thought that would be a great girls name - paired with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. We would, of course, call her [name_u]Lou[/name_u].

What are thoughts on Llewyn [name_f]Rose[/name_f]?

(Llewyn is pronounced [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-in)

It took me a while to figure out how this was pronounced. I’m not familiar with Llewyn [name_m]Davis[/name_m] and I kept thinking it was said like [name_m]Llewellyn[/name_m]. I think it’s a bit confusing, but it has nice sounds.

I prefer [name_m]Llewellyn[/name_m]. Much better. Llewyn had me confused.

I like Llewyn [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

I thought it was [name_m]Llewellyn[/name_m] and then a boy name.

[name_u]Lou[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is pretty! Llewyn, I’m not sure how I feel about it. I prefer [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-[name_u]Lynn[/name_u] I guess.

Llewyn seems very masculine to me. If you’re OK with that, then I think go for it. (I have once seen [name_m]Llewellyn[/name_m] feminised as Llewella, which you may like).

Llewyn is not a woman’s name.

Sorry, I can’t get n board with Llewyn as it takes me to [name_m]Llewellyn[/name_m] or Liewellyn and it feels like a boy’s name to me. Being that you would like to call her [name_u]Lou[/name_u] I would use either [name_f]Lula[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], which I think are lovely.

I find Llewyn hard to pronounce. [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-in sounds looks straight enough, but it doesn’t at all tie to Llewyn for me. I also don’t personally love the sound [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-in. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a middle is a bit boring, and I think something a bit fancier, girlier might be better. Like Llewyn [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], or Llewyn [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f].

I also thought of [name_m]Llewellyn[/name_m] which is a rather old name next to [name_u]Tatum[/name_u] and [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]. I would prefer [name_f]Louella[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

Llewyn and [name_m]Llewellyn[/name_m] are both Welsh male names, not female names. Are there female authors you’d like to honour?

I do really like the name, but the spelling threw me off at first. I really wanted to say [name_m]Llewellyn[/name_m], but knew that wasn’t the name. I’d pick a different spelling if I were to use it. Lewin perhaps. [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] seems like another close alternative too

I think the name goes really well with [name_u]Tatum[/name_u] and [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]… None of them sound too alike.

Be prepared for having to explain its pronunciation a lot, though.
