What are your honest thoughts on the name [name_f]Luna[/name_f]? First impressions? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know any little Lunas?
Iāve been searching for ways to get to [name_f]Lu[/name_f]/[name_u]Lou[/name_u] as a nn and this seems to be one that we both agree on. My momās name is [name_u]June[/name_u] so I like that they have a similar sound as well. Iām not 100% sold right now because I worry that it feels a bit ānamer basicā to me if that makes sense.
I previously suggested [name_f]Lula[/name_f] and [name_f]Luella[/name_f] to DH which were both definite vetoes and [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] he finds strange (ha!). We both really like [name_f]Lu[/name_f]/Lulu/[name_u]Lou[/name_u] but would like something longer for versatility. Iām not a fan of [name_f]Louise[/name_f] either.
Itās #49 in Canada which is more popular than the names I usually go for, but not too way up there to where I wouldnāt still consider it. I have yet to come across one personally. It doesnāt really bother me that some celebs have used it either because I donāt find it as identifiable as something like [name_u]North[/name_u] or [name_u]Blue[/name_u] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. And I like [name_f]Luna[/name_f] Lovegood as a character.
Iāve heard people bring up Loony as a potential tease but Iām not too bothered as there are drawbacks to almost every name. Honestly, she probably would be a little loony with us as parents!
Too bad DH doesnāt like [name_f]Luella[/name_f]! Itās such a gorgeous name!
While [name_f]Luna[/name_f] isnāt really my style, it sounds like itās perfect for you! Iām also in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and havenāt met any little Lunas yet.
I think I understand the ānamer basicā problem but simple names can be beautiful too! Maybe a longer, flowy middle?
I think [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is beautiful. I love her pearly whiteness and the connection to the moon - and to add to this itās a stylish and very wearable name.
The Loony thing makes me hesitate a little, just because my own sister is a big tease and if my name had been [name_f]Luna[/name_f], she probably would have driven me crazy with Loony⦠but at the end of the day I definitely donāt think this is a deal-breaker.
I really love [name_f]Luna[/name_f]! I am a huge [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] fan, so the character is definitely a positive association for me. However, aside from that, [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is an absolutely gorgeous name. I donāt know any Lunas personally, but I would love to meet one!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Luna[/name_f]! Itās on my long list. The celestial imagery it brings up is wonderful. Itās short and spunky and sweet.
I do agree about the potential Looney [name_f]Luna[/name_f] tease. (Although I donāt think being called looney is the worst insult.) I also wonder how it would hold up in an intensely professional setting: [name_u]Justice[/name_u] [name_f]Luna[/name_f] _________ .
I think [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is really, really cute! In my country [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Luana[/name_f] and Luena are in the top 100 but Iāve only met one little [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. I love the association with the moon too.
As a Cancerian ruled by the moon, I heartily approve of the name [name_f]Luna[/name_f]! Seriously, I think itās a wonderful nameā¦short, simple, evocative, & w/a positive literary namesake. Plus luna moths are incredibly beautifulā¦I donāt know if youāve ever seen oneā¦?
I love [name_f]Luna[/name_f]! Iām also in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and there was one little [name_f]Luna[/name_f] in our baby swim class but thatās all I have seen. It may become more popular with itās use on the show [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]Amsterdam[/name_m] but if [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] didnāt completely burn it out you should be good.
But just in case, other [name_f]Lu[/name_f] nicknames areā¦
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]
[name_u]Luca[/name_u]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Lumina[/name_f]
I cant say I am a fan of [name_f]Luna[/name_f] as a name. I like it but I couldnt use it for my own kid mainly due to its popularity/trend (Iām in Australia and know of 3 little girls call [name_f]Luna[/name_f]). I guess it depends on your style of name though! I like names that can suit a little girl as well as an adult and I just canāt imagine a 70 year old called [name_f]Luna[/name_f]!
Some other options to consider: [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (Loo-see-ah or Loo-sha pronunciation), [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_u]Luca[/name_u]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] names like Aluka/Iluka could potentially have a nn of [name_f]Lu[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Luna[/name_f]! Thereās something so enchanting about it. And it just has a beautiful sound. I tend to go for longer names myself, but [name_f]Luna[/name_f] falls into a category of shorter names I really adore (alongside [name_u]Echo[/name_u], [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f], [name_f]Lilith[/name_f], [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f], [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f], and [name_f]Yvaine[/name_f])
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] hasnāt been a favorite of mine, but it is growing on me. To my ear, there is nothing āyoungā about the sound of the name itself. At one time, it was hard to imagine an adult [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], [name_f]Kristen[/name_f], or [name_f]Heather[/name_f] because there werenāt very many of them, but those names now work fine on adults.
Honestly, the only thing that bothers me is the āloonyā thing, and since you donāt care about that, thatās awesome to me!
It seems to be a popular name, but Iāve yet to meet anyone with it thus far. I think itās short, cute, and whimsical. If itās something you can both agree on, I say go for it! I understand why you want something a bit longer, but [name_f]Luna[/name_f] doesnāt feel like an incomplete name to me.
I really like [name_f]Luna[/name_f], and donāt find it too ānamer basicā at all. I think itās equal parts unusual and recognisable which I think is great in a name.
Iāve not come upon any [name_f]Luna[/name_f]'s at all as yet, but Iād love to ā it really is a gorgeous name.
Honestly, Iām not a huge fan. Something about the sound of the name seems odd to me on an actual person. I know a cat named [name_f]Luna[/name_f], and I think itās a much more intuitive pet name.
Iām sad your husband doesnāt like [name_f]Lula[/name_f]⦠I want to second the suggestion of [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] and also add [name_f]Eluned[/name_f]. My friend also has a sister [name_f]Laura[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Lu[/name_f] at home⦠I think most L names could work.
I love [name_f]Luna[/name_f]! Itās such a magical name (heheā¦) and I would love to use it. Itās just that a friend of mine used it as her dogās nameā¦
Anyways, to me, [name_f]Lu[/name_f] as a nn makes [name_f]Luna[/name_f] more badass
