My DD has a lovely little boy named [name]Levi[/name] [name]Michael[/name] and has often spoken about naming a girl after my mother [name]Gloria[/name].
My mother doesn’t particularly like her name, she thinks it is too “old-fashioned” but we both like it.
[name]How[/name] do feel about [name]Gloria[/name] as a fn? What kind of MN would you use?
Any ideas on a compromise? She wants to at the very least use the letter G.
I think [name]Gloria[/name] is ready for a comeback! [name]Maggie[/name] Gyllenhaal named her daughter [name]Gloria[/name] not long ago.
I’ll get back to you on middle name ideas…
[name]Gloria[/name] is lovely. It kind of hits that post-hipster sweet spot. It’s not quite old lady cool. It’s still in that middle-aged place before old-lady cool, so it’s either totally off the radar or super cutting edge. [name]Hence[/name] the [name]Maggie[/name] Gyllenhaal baby. Her other daughter’s name, [name]Ramona[/name], is similarly so uncool it’s cool.
I actually think it’s really pretty, uncommon and feminine.
[name]Gloria[/name] is glorious! It’s been on and off my list. I certainly think it’s an under-appreciated diamond in the rough. Maybe in some parts of the country (US), it might be considered old fashioned, but it’s no more old fashioned than [name]Alice[/name] and look how popular that’s getting. It’s got a very nice meaning and sound, I love the -ia endings. Listen to the U2 song [name]Gloria[/name] for inspiration :-). [name]Gloria[/name] is ready for a revival.
