How do you picture a little girl with this name?

Hello! I am trying to decide if [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] is an old lady name that’s ready to come back in style. My husband and I love it, but our parents hate it and keep bringing up bullying. We also love the nickname [name_f]Prue[/name_f] and don’t think teasing will as bad as our parents think.

I am curious how you might picture a girl, teen and woman named [name_f]Prue[/name_f]? If multiple looks or personality occur to you, feel free to elaborate. I love reading 'berry responses!

I’m also open to middle name suggestions. Right now we are considering:
[name_f]Prudence[/name_f] Illyria [name_f]Ann[/name_f]
[name_f]Prudence[/name_f] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Prudence[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] ???

[name_f]Love[/name_f] the name, it’s definitely one of those “old lady” names that’s ready to come back in style. I think I like the nn [name_f]Pru[/name_f] even more. It should wear well with all ages in my opinion

I love [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]! [name_f]Prue[/name_f] is really cute as a nn. I imagine she would be very pretty, perhaps introverted, but nice, and smart.
Out of your combinations, I think [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is great!

I like the nickname [name_f]Prue[/name_f]…but just don’t like the sound of [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]. I think its because of the “Prude” part. People use that word so negatively nowadays.

At least if you use it, you can sing “Dear [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]” to her which would be cute.

I picture [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] exactly like the character from Charmed. Though I think the name is wearable on any girl and age.

I think [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] Illyria [name_f]Ann[/name_f] is a great name. I wouldn’t combine [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], only because they seem a bit like opposites to me. Either way, I think [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]/[name_f]Prue[/name_f] is a cute name for a little girl, and I think it would grow with her.

I think [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] is a fantastic name! However, a lot of people will assume you are a Charmed fan.

I honestly have trouble picturing this name on a little girl. I suppose serious, studious, perfectionist, a bit uptight? Sorry. I do think the nickname is cute though.

I think it’s a beautiful name that’s pretty uncommon right now, which I think is a plus. If you and your husband love it, don’t let other people sway your opinion. I am a teacher, I don’t foresee bullying becoming a problem.

I read a book as a tween where one of the main characters was called [name_f]Prudence[/name_f], nn [name_f]Pru[/name_f]. She had large glasses, mousy brown hair and was tall, thin and a bit lanky. She was about, oh, eleven or twelve years old. She was a bit uptight, but very intelligent and bookish. That’s the only [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]/[name_f]Pru[/name_f] I know, so that’s how I imagine one. I just can’t imagine a feisty party girl being called [name_f]Prudence[/name_f], or a singing, dancing musical theatre star. Besides [name_f]Pru[/name_f]/[name_f]Prue[/name_f], I think [name_m]Dewey[/name_m] could be a feasible nickname (I know a teenage [name_m]Dewey[/name_m]).

As for your combinations, my favorite would be [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] Illyria [name_f]Eve[/name_f].
[name_f]Prudence[/name_f] has a very Colonial, Biblical vibe, and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] is a Biblical name, so that sounds a bit stuffy to me. [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] could both be considered “clunky” names. Illyria has a very ethereal, fantastical vibe that makes [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] sound a little glossier.

I like [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]! I picture an adventurous girl with long braids, reading a book while sitting high up in a tree. [name_f]Prue[/name_f] is a great nickname too. It makes me think of cute little [name_u]Rue[/name_u] from The Hunger Games. For middles I like [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f].

I adore the nn [name_f]Prue[/name_f] and [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] is a wonderful name too! I picture a [name_f]Prue[/name_f] being very lovable and pure. I don’t really have any associations.

I like [name_f]Prudence[/name_f].

As a young girl I picture her having long hair and being a bit quiet and watchful. The type who draws or keeps a detailed journal.

As a grown woman, I’m quite influenced by Charmed I guess, so I picture a beautiful slim dark-haired woman with piercing blue eyes who’s not too delicate. A polished attorney type, not easily pushed around but not shriek-y or spoiled either.

I like [name_f]Pru[/name_f] quite a lot as a nickname.

[name_f]Prudence[/name_f] Illyria [name_f]Ann[/name_f] would be my favourite of your combos.

I know two Prudences, both aged 12-15, and this is absolutely the opposite of them :stuck_out_tongue:
[name_f]Prudence[/name_f] nn [name_f]Prudy[/name_f] (15) is a cool, happy, popular blonde girl who is funny and always laughing. She’s very athletic.
[name_f]Prudence[/name_f] nn [name_f]Prue[/name_f] (12) is a stick thin, funny girl who is always teasing her older sister and she has the most elfin face. She’s clever and a bit of a ‘tree climbing’ girl. She’s always at the beach.

These are the only references I really have for this name, but I agree that the song “Dear [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]” is absolutely gorgeous. I think the name itself is lovely. Best of luck!
