[name]Em[/name]-uh-leen. I love it!
[name]Em[/name]-uh-line
…i’ve also heard it [name]Emma[/name]-lynn before
I would say ‘-line’
then ‘-lyn’ before ‘-leen’ if I had to guess
I prefer [name]Em[/name]-uh-line.
I would say em-uh-lin (ending like [name]Lynne[/name]) - not a choice, but I know one little [name]Emmaline[/name] and that’s how her name is pronounced
I can tell you from experience that this name will be mispronounced as [name]Emma[/name]-“line” at least 75% of the time. [name]Just[/name] constantly. It’s worth it, but she will constantly be correcting people unless she goes by a nickname.
I say it with the line ending. I used to hate the keen ending but it’s grown on me to where I love them both now.
I prefer the -leen ending, but I can imagine both being used. If you absolutely hated one, I’d hesitate to use it.
I say [name]Em[/name]-uh-lynn…
I love it with the leen ending. It’s one of my favorite names right now, but I have a niece named [name]Emily[/name], so it probably wouldn’t work for me.
I would tend to say [name]Emma[/name]-line at first guess, but I actually love all 3 pronunciations - lynn, line, or leen. I think it would bug me though to have everyone pronouncing it different than the way we chose to, but that’s just me.
[name]Love[/name] the name, and actually had it on our list until we realized that if it go shortened to [name]Emma[/name] or [name]Emmy[/name] it wouldn’t work with our last name.
With the -leen ending. I find the -line ending a bit awkward to pronounce.
I pronounce it -leen. Although I see it a lot on here, I’ve never actually met anyone [name]IRL[/name] who says -line or -lyn (I’m in the UK though, so it’s probably a location thing).
I actually say it more like [name]Em[/name]-eh/ih-line
Emm-uh-leen…sounds so much better than Emm-uh-line in my opinion.
Yes. [name]Love[/name] the Emm-uh-leen pronunciation and it seems so obvious to me, but I am surprised that there are so many differing pronunciations to this name! It is the very reason I veered away from [name]Adeline[/name] as well.
I think it has something do with the spelling and pn in English, where for me if it ends in -line it’s just more natural to say line, like the word line… if it was Emmeleen/Emmaleen, then I would say leen…
Definitely -leen. But I think both pronunciations are gorgeous!
[name]Emmeline[/name] is a French name that was brought to [name]England[/name] by the Normans so I pronounce it the French/British way “[name]EM[/name]-uh-leen” (a la British suffragette [name]Emmeline[/name] Pankhurst). I notice that Americans tend to change traditional pronunciations either due to personal preference or regional accents. [name]Emmeline[/name] would most likely be pronounced as “line” in [name]America[/name]. Personally, I would never pronounce it that way and certainly not with a “lyn”. Spelling makes all of the difference.
[name]Emmeline[/name] = [name]EM[/name]-uh-leen
[name]Emmaline[/name] = [name]EM[/name]-uh-line
[name]Emmalyn[/name]/[name]Emmelyn[/name] = [name]EM[/name]-uh-lyn
