How do you pronounce Alicia?

My name is [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] and I get all sorts of pronunciations. The most common ones are ah-LEESH-a and ah-lyss-ah. My name is actually pronounced ah-[name_m]LISH[/name_m]-ah, rhyming with [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]. I don’t understand why barely anyone can get it right! Words like delicious and malicious have the same “lish” sound that my name does!

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce [name_f]Alicia[/name_f]?

I have never actually heard of [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] being pronounced the way you say it. I pronounce it as [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-lyss-ee-ah or Ah-lees-ee-yah because I went to college with a girl who pronounces it that way, and because of [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] Vikander. I know that I have a problem with the pronunciation of both my first and middle, it can be frustrating, but I’ve realised now that you pretty much can’t avoid it if your name has multiple pronunciations.

My first instinct would be ah-LEESH-ah, followed by ah-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-see-ah. I’d never have guessed like [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] or ah-[name_m]LISH[/name_m]-ah, but I’ve never heard of [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] pronounced your way. Thinking of [name_f]Patricia[/name_f], malicious, patrician, delicious, etc., your pronunciation does make sense, though! I’m starting to like ah-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-see-ah a lot, but it’s probably because I love the sound of [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] (eh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-see-ah) so much.

I used to pronounce it as A-leese-ee-uh though I’m sure I would anymore. I knew someone who was named [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] and she pronounced it Uh-lish-uh. And I met someone else who pronounced it A-leesh-uh. So idk. I guess it’s a name that you can pronounce many different ways.

The most common prn where I live, and the only one I’ve ever heard used, is uh leesh uh. My next guess is uh lease ee uh.

The two girls I know with this name both pronounce it ah-lee-sha. My second go-to is ah-lee-see-ah (again, because of the actress with the name).

At first glance i would pronounce it [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-Leesh-Uh but its everyones personal preferrance

Automatically I say [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-lee-sha but i know more ah-lee-see-ah

I have a cousin [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] and my brother has a good friend [name_f]Alicia[/name_f]. They both pronounce it A-[name_u]Lee[/name_u]-Sha.

I’ve heard ah-lee-sha (the English pronunciation) and ah-lee-see-ah (the Spanish pronunciation).

evelinrose it makes me so happy whenever I hear of another uh-lish-uh!

I would say [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-leesh-ah or [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-liss-ia or [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-leese-ia, as I’ve known people who say it in each of those ways. I really like [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-liss-ia, as in [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] Vikander. I haven’t come across other pronunciations, but as a name lover I obviously listen closely for how anyone I meet says their name and go with how they say it. I’ve always seen [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] as a name with quite a few different possibilities!

I’ve always pronounce it a-liss-ee-ah, like [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] Vikander. Maybe it’s because I’m from Europe and here we pronounce it thay way

My favourite pronunciation is like [name_f]Alyssia[/name_f] but I usually go for uh-lee-shuh because it’s the most common prn.

a-lyss-ee-uh

Where I’m from (Midwest US), most people would pronounce that ah-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-shah.

Uh-lee-sha and Uh-lee-see-uh for me. I prefer the latter, actually. =]

Sorry to say that it’s not common to pronounce it your way where I’m from either. It really does make sense, though, and I think it’s a nice pronunciation.

I’ve meet three [name_f]Alicia[/name_f]'s in my life. Two of them pronounced it A-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-sha. One of them pronounced it A-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-see-a.

My first instinct would be to pronounce [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] ah-leesh-ah, and then ah-lee-see-ah. The first “ah” would sound more like “uh” in my accent though, “ah” and “uh” often end up sounding similar. I’ve never heard of [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] pronounced ah-lish-ah, and I get it would be annoying, but I can understand why you’d have to correct it a lot, unfortunately.

I say it: eh-lees-see-uh
