I like this name, but I could see it either way and I’m not sure if that would make it confusing for everyone else! My true dilemna is that unfortunately I’ve been in love with the name [name]Ava[/name] for as long as I can remember and of course it is so extremely popular, which is against everything I usually look for in a name. Sigh.
I want it to be pronounced like another poster said: like [name]Avalon[/name], but with “line” on the end, because I like that the best. But, I don’t know how it is supposed to be pronounced. [name]Ah[/name]-vuh-leen is nice too.
Since this is an old [name]Norman[/name] French name, I pronounce [name]Aveline[/name] as “ah-vuh-LEEN”. French names ending in “line” should be pronounced as “leen”. Unlike English speakers, French speakers even pronounce [name]Caroline[/name] with a “leen”.
I pronounce it av-uh-leen (short ‘a’ like ‘cat’, ‘bat’, ‘sat’, etc.). According to behindthename.com, this is the correct pronunciation. [name]Love[/name] this name, but it would be really hard to get people NOT to pronounce it as [name]Ava[/name]-leen/line/lyn or use [name]Ava[/name] as a nickname which would drive me crazy because I can’t stand the name [name]Ava[/name].
