My oldest son’s name is [name]Cassian[/name]. We pronounce it [name]Cash[/name]-en, and his nn is [name]Cash[/name].
I’ve seen it pronounced on baby name sites both [name]Cash[/name]-en and [name]Cass[/name]-ee-in and am just wondering how you would pronounce it or how you prefer it pronounced?
I would pronounce it [name]Cash[/name]-en. In the U.S. I believe that [name]Cash[/name]-en would be the correct pronunciation. [name]Just[/name] looking at it (at a glance) it would be [name]Cash[/name]-en from the way I was taught in school.
I can see it as being either [name]Cash[/name]-en or [name]Cass[/name]-ee-in. A friend of mine has a little girl whose middle name is [name]Cassia[/name], which she pronounces [name]Cash[/name]-uh, so I’d probably pronounce [name]Cassian[/name] as [name]Cash[/name]-en.
I pronounce it like [name]Cassie[/name]-an, because it’s similar to [name]Cassius[/name] and an aquaintance has a brother called [name]Cassius[/name] pronounced [name]Cassie[/name]-us, though if someone told me their name was pronounced [name]Cash[/name]-an I would use that version when addressing or talking about them.
I would pronounce it [name]Cassie[/name]-an, I pronounce [name]Cassius[/name] as [name]Cassie[/name]-us out of preference and nearly took it off my list when I found out about the [name]Cash[/name]-us annunciation, I just don’t find it as appealing.
[name]Cass[/name]-see-en is how I would say it and I prefer that to your son’s pronunciation myself, no offense. Your pronunciation makes sense though, seeing as [name]Cassius[/name] is [name]Cash[/name]-us. I love the nn [name]Cash[/name] or [name]Cass[/name].
