How do you pronounce Coraline, Evangeline and Marceline ?

So I was wondering if you guys pronounce it [name_f]Cora[/name_f]-line or [name_f]Cora[/name_f]-leen. I am used to the [name_f]Cora[/name_f]-line pronunciation but that is only because that was used in the movie and what the author prefers. I was thinking that since I pronounce [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] as [name_u]Evan[/name_u]-ge-leen and [name_f]Marce[/name_f]-leen (respectively), I should pronounce it [name_f]Cora[/name_f]-leen to be consistent. Does consistency even matter? [name_m]How[/name_m] do you guys pronounce [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] & [name_f]Marceline[/name_f]?

I say [name_f]Cora[/name_f]-line, Evange-leen, and [name_f]Marce[/name_f]-leen. I think leen and line varies by name, they don’t all always have to be pronounced the same.

The pronunciation of the -line really depends on the origin of the specific name. However, most people will just say it however they’re used to hearing it. For me, I say [name_f]Cora[/name_f]-[name_f]LINE[/name_f], [name_f]Evangel[/name_f]-LEEN, and [name_f]Marce[/name_f]-LEEN as well.

My favorite of your three is [name_f]Marceline[/name_f]!! Absolutely gorgeous! You can’t go wrong with any of the three though really.

I pronounced [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] the same way it says on BehindtheName.

[name_f]Coraline[/name_f] - [name_m]COR[/name_m]-ə-LIEN
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] - ə-[name_u]VAN[/name_u]-jə-leen (Meaning, origin and history of the name Evangeline - Behind the Name)
[name_f]Marceline[/name_f] - [name_f]MAR[/name_f]- ce - leen

[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] are -leen and [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] is -line.

I say [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] ending in -line, and [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] ending in -leen, as well.

I say it like the others do. I think it really varies depending on the person and what they’re used to.

I pronounce them [name_m]Cor[/name_m]-a-line, [name_u]Evan[/name_u]-je-leen and [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-ce-leen.

I think it’s perfectly normal for pronunciation to vary by name. I pronounce them [name_f]Cora[/name_f]-line, [name_u]Evan[/name_u]-je-lyn, and [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-ce-leen.

I say (ee-van-juh-[name_f]LINE[/name_f]), (mar-suh-LEEN) and (core-uh-[name_f]LINE[/name_f]). Consistency is impossible in the naming world : ) [name_u]Leighton[/name_u] and [name_u]Leigh[/name_u], anyone?

Ditto this.

[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] -leen
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f]- line (mostly because of the film)

I say [name_u]Leighton[/name_u] as [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-ton and [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] as [name_u]Lee[/name_u]

[name_f]Coraline[/name_f] is a recently-created fictional name, made up by the author of the book [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] that was later made into a film. I would pronounce it the way the author, [name_u]Neil[/name_u] Gaiman, meant it to be pronounced.

[name_f]Coraline[/name_f]: corr-uh-lyne
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]: eve-ann-jeh-leen
[name_f]Marceline[/name_f]: mar-seh-leen

I pronounce them…
cora-LEEN
[name_m]Marcel[/name_m]-EEN
evangel-EEN

I pronounce them the same as you: [name_f]Cora[/name_f]-[name_f]Line[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] Ev-ang-el-LEEN and [name_f]Marce[/name_f]-LEEN. My favorite (if you can tell by my signature) is [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], but I love the movie [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], so I love the name too. I do like [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] too (partially because the celine part of the name, [name_f]Selene[/name_f] is one of favorites and they sound the same) but I prefer [name_f]Marcella[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] sounds the most sophisticated out of the three.
