I think it depends on where you are, and where you’re from. The Helenas I know from the U.S. (I don’t know where you’re from but this is just an example) all prononce it [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-uh but I also know people from central [name_u]America[/name_u] who pronounce it uh-lay-nuh
It definitely depends on where you’re from, but I pronounce it [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-uh.
I’ve heard [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-uh the most but I like Huh-leen-uh best.
I used to say it [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-uh but I’ve known 2 who say it he-LAY-na and I far prefer that so it’s what I say now.
I think of [name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_u]Montana[/name_u] ([name_f]Helen[/name_f]-uh) but my grandmother who is from the Netherlands pronounces it like Huh-lay-nuh. It really just depends on where you live.
I prefer the [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-uh pronunciation but I’ve known women that went by both [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-uh and Huh-lay-nuh so I wouldn’t be surprised by either of thsoe.
I’ve heard it multiple ways, but the [name_f]Helena[/name_f] I know best uses [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-uh.
I alternate between [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-a and Huh-lay-nuh, with a preference towards [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-a
It depends a local church to my parents is at hel-een -uh
Mostly I pronounce it [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-uh
But I also know someone called hel-ayn-uh
So depending on the person I’ve pronounced it all 3 ways
Huh-lay-nuh but im not surprised by any as I’ve known people of each
Thanks everyone. Someone I’m close to just named her baby this and I was surprised by her pronunciation of: Huh-leen-uh
While I do like it with almost every pronunciation -I guess I wouldn’t be alone in being surprised given the poll results!
I do he-lay-nah and helen-uh interchangeably.
Yeah! I have heard all 3 ways, Huh-leen-uh the least, but it’s definitely my favorite!
I’ve also heard the three forms, and I like [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-uh and Huh-leen-uh more than Hu-lay-nuh.
