KATH-ryn, I’ve never heard it pronounced any other way.
I think it SHOULD be Kath-er-in, but most people say Kath-ryn. Which is exactly why my dad chose to spell my name [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f]. I used to want to change my name to [name_f]Katharine[/name_f], which I pronounce Kath-uh-rin. But I didn’t, obviously.

Until a couple of years ago I pronounced [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] with 3 syllables as Kath-er-in. I got into baby naming when pregnant with my first and realized what a lovely name [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is, but I preferred it pronounced with 2 syllables as Cath-ryn (perhaps because we have a 3 syllable last name, so I thought it flowed better [although we didn’t use this name]). When the two syllable pronunciation was presented to me I felt some revelation that I’d been pronouncing it wrong all along. So, now I’m curious: Is there a “proper” way to pronounce [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]/[name_f]Katherine[/name_f]?
I say “KATH-rin,” sometimes “KATH-er-in” when I’m not being lazy about it.

KATH-er-ryn, but the ‘er’ part is so faint it’s almost KATH-ryn.
[name_f]My[/name_f] Communion name is [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].
KATH-ryn, but if for some reason I was saying it really slowly I’d say KATH-uh-ryn.
KATH-rinn for every spelling except for [name_f]Catharine[/name_f]/ [name_f]Katharine[/name_f], which I say with a very slight difference, more like “KATH-uh’rinn”
I’d never fight for the extra half syllable, though. I have a kid in my class named [name_f]Delia[/name_f] and I asked her if it’s “DEEL-ya” or “[name_f]DEE[/name_f]-lee-a” she was like “Those sound exactly the same to me”… It’s pretty much undetectable unless you’re deliberately looking.

If it’s [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], then Kath-Er-Ryn.
If it’s [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f], then Kath-ryn
I say CATH-[eh]-rin. In my mind, I don’t really consider the middle syllable, but it sort of comes out a little bit anyway, like a hiccup on my tongue, haha. It’s a bit hard to get my tongue to get around the th and ri part all together, so I think it compensates a little bit to try and make it flow more smoothly, but it’s not a full syllable, either, if that makes sense.
kath-er-yn, but the ‘er’ is said subtly (not heavily pronounced).
