How do you pronounce Maridley?

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce Maridley? I’ve seen in a few places now and I am not really sure. It always comes out like married-ly when I try to pronounce it.

Bump. Surely someone knows, please!

I’ve never heard of it, but my first instinct is MAAR-id-lee, or maybe MAH-rid-lee. I don’t think there’s really a way to get around it sounding like ‘marriedly’.

I haven’t heard of it, but I pronounce the Marid part like it rhymes with the name [name_m]Jared[/name_m].

I haven’t heard it, but my first instinct would be to pronounce it as [name_f]May[/name_f]-ridley.

I pronounced it [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-id-lee when I first saw it.

I have never seen this name before,
but the way I pronounced it upon first seeing it is: mah-RID-lee
with the emphasis on the 2nd syllable.
To me this is the pronunciation that makes the most sense.

Thanks all, I am loving the pronounciations that are further away from marriedly. Haha. It’s an old southern name. I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] names, so I was just curious whether I would like this as well.

I thought it was ma-[name_u]Ridley[/name_u]. I guess you can stick “ma” in front of any name.
Maybe this honors Grandma [name_u]Ridley[/name_u]?

I’ve never seen or heard of it before, but I’d pronounce mah-RID-lee.

I have never heard it, but my gut was to say “married-ly”, as well. I think anyone who is a native Spanish/Italian/Portugese speaker would roll the “r” sound to pronounce it like the above.

I pronounce it [name_f]MAIR[/name_f]-id-lee. Maybe muh-RID-lee?

I would say “MUH-rid-lee.”
