I pronounce it [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-ah like it’s suppose to be pronounced in Greek.
I think it’s lovely. It’s sophisticated, soft, sweet, strong. It’s got good nicknames if you want them, [name_f]Nell[/name_f] is my favorite.
I instinctively say [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-ah, but I have also heard Hel-lay-nah and Hel-lee-nah!
Hel-N-ah though I’m from Australia so it may be an accent thing
It’s my cousin’s name She’s ‘hell-en-a’. So the first option in your poll. Basically just [name_f]Helen[/name_f] with an ‘a’ on the end.
Heh-layn-uh is how I pronounce it. [Southern accent included, lol]
I prn it my favorite way, Hel-len-uh
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]-ah is how I pronounce it.
I voted for #2… but #1 also came to mind so I’d expect either of those pronunciations
My first instinct is always to pronounce it HEL-ehn-uh
I’ve never met one though, so if I was introduced to someone and they said hel-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-nuh, I don’t think I’d have any problem using or remembering that.
I adore the name [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-uh so I say it that way…but really I wait to hear someone else say it because I know there’s a few options. My friend’s have a little [name_f]Helena[/name_f] that I have yet to meet in person, but I see all over Facebook…no idea which pronunciation they use! My name has 2 pronunciations and I rarely correct people and neither pronunciation bothers me…I feel that the one my family uses is more “me”, but I have had jobs where I get called by the other more “formal” feeling pronunciation and it all works for me.
I pronounce it however I’m told to pronounce it because there are at least three legitimate possibilities where I live. If I were to use it on my child, I would probably spell it Helina to make the desired “he-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-na” pronunciation more obvious. (And by “the desired” I only mean that it is my personal favorite)
I pronounce it [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-uh.
I used to say heh-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-nuh prob because i know more [name_f]Elena[/name_f]'s than [name_f]Helen[/name_f]'s, so I instinctively added the H to [name_f]Elena[/name_f] rather than the a to [name_f]Helen[/name_f]. But now I say HEH-leh-nuh in my head because I think it’s prettier that way.
My Aunt’s middle name is [name_f]Helena[/name_f]. She pronounces it Hay-[name_u]Lee[/name_u]-Na. But I think anyway you pronounce it, [name_f]Helena[/name_f] is truly beautiful and elegant
I pronounce [name_f]Helena[/name_f] like [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-uh. It’s a Greek name and that’s the correct pronunciation.
I either pronounce it Hell-En-[name_m]AH[/name_m] (sort of like [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-[name_m]Ah[/name_m]) or Huh-Lenh-NAH. I don’t really know what it depends on - probably my mood or the flow of the name or context or something. But were I to choose just one it would be the first.
I know it can be [name_f]Helen[/name_f] with an a on the end too, but my first instinct is always Heh-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-nah.
