I’ve heard quite a few different pronunciations and now I am a bit confused on how it’s supposed to be pronounced. I am considering it for my little girl but I need to know how to pronounce it first. My husband and I have been pronouncing it zan-tha. Most of our family members and friends say zanth. And the rest say it zan-thee.
So how do you pronounce [name]Xanthe[/name]?
PS: [name]How[/name] does [name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Artemis[/name] sound to you?
I love it! I say it [name]ZAN[/name]-thee. Most Greek names that end in a single “E” usually have the long “EE” sound ([name]Persephone[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Xanthe[/name], [name]Ariadne[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], etc.). [name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Artemis[/name] is intriguing. I have to say I like a lot of other mythology names above [name]Artemis[/name], personally, though.
I pronounce it [name]ZAN[/name]-thee, for the same reasons ashthedreamer listed. As for [name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Artemis[/name] - I would consider a slightly more classic middle to go with the unusual first.
I say [name]ZAN[/name]-thee but I think you can say [name]Zan[/name]-tha. [name]One[/name] of my favourites, I also like [name]Xanthia[/name]. ([name]Zan[/name]-thee-a).
[name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Artemis[/name] is nice, but I would prefer [name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Artemisia[/name].
You might hate me for this but I will bring some honesty to the table. If you have to ask how it is pronounced than nobody after your daughter is born will know how to pronounce it either. Most people will say it wrong and never spell it correctly if you don’t care then go for it. Good luck and I mean that genuinely and if you decide to name her that then it will be perfect :)!
Met a couple (its more popular… not that it IS popular… in UK/Commonwealths than the US as far as I can tell) and one [name]Xanthia[/name]. The [name]Xanthia[/name] is zan-thee-ah, the Xanthes are zan-thees.
Like [name]Chloe[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], etc.
[name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Artemis[/name] is interesting, but I like [name]Xanthe[/name] much more than I like [name]Artemis[/name].
