[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering about people’s general perceptions of [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], these are just a few questions (feel free to only answer what you want)…
[i]- What sort of style would you define it as? Are there any other names you associate it with, or ‘sister names’ you can definitely picture [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] with (people always seem to pair [name_f]Alice[/name_f]/[name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]/[name_f]Fiona[/name_f], that sort of thing)?
If you don’t know it’s origins, what would you guess they were?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any general imagery for [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]? Colours/pictures/places, whatever.
If you know any Cordelias, what are they like? What traits (physical or personality wise) do you associate with it? [/i]
Sorry, I know it’s a lot! I guess I’m just really looking for a general consensus of how it’s perceived, on Nameberry at least! - thanks in advance
I love [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables and that was her favorite name…so I do warm to it…however, I’d choose it for a middle name. It does have a lovely lyrical sound and evokes a regal, Victorian & sumptuous “vibe”…yet, for me, [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] doesn’t have that vintage “look” which I love…I also see “[name_m]Cord[/name_m]” in the name which isn’t appealing…but then I do like [name_f]Bathsheba[/name_f] which has a “Bath” in it (but in IMHO, I think “bath” is a romantic image but a “cord” is not). On the whole, I give [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] a 7/10. In any case, I’m sure it would be a more well-received and admired name than my favorite [name_f]Godiva[/name_f] (which many people - unfortunately - find utterly detestable!).

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]'s sisters would be [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
Names I associate with [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] are [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Viola[/name_f] and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f].

As I associate it with [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], I’d guess [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] was a greek name.

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and her sisters [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] are all very beautiful girls.
Now only looking at the oldest, [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]; you will mostly find her sitting in a field of flowers, reading to her little sister. They just finished [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in Wonderland and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] talk enthusiastically about it. When getting asked all sorts of questions by the little one, [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is always patient, listens to the little girls voice and replies with sentences full of warmth.
She also loves to bake. Smelling freshly baked blueberry muffins always takes her back to her earliest childhood memory.
She build a teepee with her mom in the tall grass, filled it with pillows and blankets and ate dozens of blueberries.
She remembers all the fairytales she was told during the day and how they stayed up really late to look at the stars.
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] has always been a child full of imagination. She loves to dress up and grab things from her parents closets. She rides dragons and has sword fights with her sisters. She tells them a bedtime story every night as her wonderful fables trump even the most amazing book.
Overall she is very flowery, kind, warm-hearted and vintage to me. If I had to place her into an era, it would be the Victorian era. [name_f]Lace[/name_f] dresses, soft colours, a carefree mind.
While I can see this child with a few names, [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is definitely one of them:
I love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]! Such a lovely vintage charm to it. I’m not 100% sure, but I think [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] was originally derived from Cordeilla, which is a Celtic name with unknown meaning. Some stories say that Cordeilla was the youngest daughter of [name_m]King[/name_m] Lear and that [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] adapted the spelling to [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] when writing his play, [name_m]King[/name_m] Lear.
Some names I would consider using for [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]'s sisters:
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and will always think of her fondly because she reminds me of [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables. I think she’s a wonderful spunky-vintage choice.
