We have two girls Mhairi and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. I am loving the name [name_u]Evan[/name_u]. My husband likes it too but it’s the name of one of his best friends so he’s worried it might seem weird. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s weird to give your child the same name as a close friend? I can’t relate since none of my friends have names I like so I’m not sure if I’d feel weird doing it! Does [name_u]Evan[/name_u] sound good w/ Mhairi and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]? I suggested [name_u]Owen[/name_u] as well but he didn’t like. And of these combos which sounds best:
Thanks! I think [name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is really cute too. Each of those middle names have family significance so any would work but I think [name_m]Jack[/name_m] sounds kind of neat. A little more fun or something.
[name_u]Evan[/name_u] works well with your daughters names. I wouldn’t have a problem using the name of a close friend but if your husband does, I guess you need to keep looking. Have you considered [name_m]Ian[/name_m], [name_m]Eamon[/name_m], or [name_m]Aaron[/name_m].
I think it sounds lovely with your daughters’ names (which are beautiful, by the way!) - do you like [name_m]Ivo[/name_m]? [name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] would be my preference, but they all sound great, really!
Not a fan of [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] or [name_m]Ivo[/name_m]…[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is my husband’s grandfather’s name on both sides so I think that would be a nice choice for middle as well to honour his family. I’m going to keep trying for [name_u]Evan[/name_u] b/c I think it’s a great name but I can understand how it might feel awkward for him.
It wouldn’t be necessarily naming him after his friend, though I think his friend is great. I actually think he would probably feel honoured. [name_u]James[/name_u] was my Grandad so of course I am partial to that one!
I think it’s nice with Mhairi and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] but the only think that is putting me off is that both Mhairi and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] are Scottish names whereas [name_u]Evan[/name_u] is Welsh. My sister’s boyfriend is called [name_u]Evan[/name_u] and I really like the name however I would never use it for one of my children. Maybe if they get married I might use it for a middle name but definitely not as a first.
I think a more Scottish boys name would be better so I will suggest some.
[name_m]Cailean[/name_m] ([name_f]Ca[/name_f]-lin same as [name_m]Callen[/name_m]) Gaelic for [name_m]Colin[/name_m]
[name_m]Angus[/name_m]
[name_m]Iain[/name_m] (Gaelic for [name_m]John[/name_m])
[name_m]Grant[/name_m]
[name_m]Callum[/name_m] (Gaelic for [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m])
[name_u]Finlay[/name_u] ([name_m]Said[/name_m] the same as [name_u]Finley[/name_u])
[name_m]Donald[/name_m]
[name_m]Harris[/name_m]
[name_m]Duncan[/name_m]
[name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_m]Craig[/name_m]
[name_u]Douglas[/name_u]
[name_u]Lyle[/name_u]
[name_m]Innes[/name_m] (In-iss)
[name_m]Fraser[/name_m]
[name_m]Lewis[/name_m]
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
[name_m]Ross[/name_m]
I agree with you, I would love to use another Scottish name…but can’t find any that we both like. The only two I really love are [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] and [name_m]Angus[/name_m] and my husband hates them. Having to compromise always makes this naming thing so tough! aha
Oh wow…just realized E.J. is what we called my grandfather on my mom’s side…for [name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]…so that would be a really neat nickname to use. Thanks for pointing that out to me.
[name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] is adorable! Have you thought about the name [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]? That would be a cute alternative to [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] to use (unless your DH’s friend’s name is [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]. lol).
