How does NB check out someones story?

In the past we have been informed that their stories don’t match up, etc. But what steps exactly does NB take to verify?[name_m]How[/name_m] do the Nameberry moderators and administrators check out a members story for fakery?

At this point with the cryptic “we won’t comment” messages I’m just curious what exactly an investigation entails.

Thanks.

Though I’m not exactly certain, I think the best way and the easiest way for the admins and other mods to do that would be to review the member’s profile and read all their posts to verify if their story matches up.

So your saying that (hypothetically) you were accused of fakery someone would have to read through your current 6,696 posts? And then make sure that each detail that describes your life matches up over the last (in your case 8 months)? That’s got to take 1 person at the very least a couple of days. That doesn’t seem like an efficient use of resources.

Since you are a moderator, would you please find out what the process is?? I really am curious.

I would think one of the easiest ways would be to see if their IP address matches up with other usernames to see if they have multiple names with multiple different stories.

Firstly, we check previous posts and see if their story checks out and there’s no obvious differences. Then we check email addresses and IP addresses. Sometimes this is enough to verify where someone is posting from, but sometimes it’s inconclusive. IP addresses aren’t as conclusive as you might think. Many are untraceable. So sometimes we can verify if someone is a troll and sometimes, even though there many be suspicions, we can’t confirm.

For a second I freaked out and thought you were accusing me of being a troll

I think checking post history, email addresses and IPs would be the easiest way to figure out if someone’s a troll. I can ask one of the admins what their entire process is to be sure if you’d like, but I’m not sure if they’d want us sharing that information all over the forum.

Sarahmezz thanks for your reply. That’s sort of what I gleamed from the boards.
Oboeplayer I’d love it if you could ask. (Sorry I’m just one of those people who likes knowing how things work - otherwise it will just keep bugging the heck out of me.)
