How easy was it for you to name your kids?

I had the easiest time naming my two boys. Didnt look on any forums, research names, anything. They just came to us and were set. I’m pregnant with my third though (a girl this time) and I swear we can not agree on a name. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband liked [name_u]Penny[/name_u] and [name_f]Sally[/name_f]. I’m not a big fan. I wanted [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m]. (I like a more out there name haha) We’ve sort of agreed on [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] or [name_f]Willa[/name_f] but I can’t decide if I love them enough. I love the way [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] sounds but it does bother me a little that it’s rising in popularity. I also like the idea of [name_f]Willa[/name_f] though I have a distant friend who has a daughter named [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and I don’t like the idea of someone thinking Im copying them haha.

Was it easy for you all to think of names and agree with your partner or was it difficult? How did you finally come up with a name? And does anyone have any suggestions for me lol?

My husband and I had a girl’s name picked before we were even engaged because we realized we had a favorite name in common…so naturally we had two boys, lol. Boys names were much harder — we vetoed each other’s faves and we have so many male relatives it ruled out a lot. We came up with a short list of about 3 names we both thought we okay, then eliminated the ones we liked the least. It was far from a lightning strike moment of finding the perfect name, but we ended up with two names we’re pretty happy with. (Though I will always feel a little pang for our hypothetical daughter’s name and my top boy name we couldn’t use as the ones that got away.)

Thanks for sharing this! What were your names that got away?

I’ve never named a child so I can’t help on that front but I’ll do my best to suggest based on [name_u]Penny[/name_u], [name_f]Sally[/name_f], [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m], [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]

My mom had the best, and then the worst time. She had two names on her list, and she was totally set on the first one. For a while, it looked like she was having a boy, but then she found out it was a girl and was super pumped about using the name.

Then, my dad came along and told her he hated it. So, after a long argument, she settled for her second favorite, and that is why my initials spell a curse word.

Hannah for a girl, [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] for a boy (my husband has a cousin with that name and I would have felt weird repeating it within the family).

Honestly I’m due in [name_u]February[/name_u] with a baby girl and I’m finding naming her so challenging. I just always envisioned my daughter being called [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and now I can’t use this name so I’m at square one. Being at square one is so challenging! I completely understand how your feeling it’s so hard. Like you I have two choices [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] & [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] that I think are beautiful but I’m just not certain on. It’s so hard. I think what I’m going to do is the Starbucks test essentially go to Starbucks and order a drink in said name see how people respond. But I’m going to do numerous orders takeaways etc just to figure out how that name works in real life. Hopefully that’ll give me a better understanding of which one I prefer or if both are them are a no. Maybe you could try this with [name_f]Willa[/name_f] or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]? I also feel that having a lots of suggestions thrown at you can be overwhelming (that’s how I’ve been feeling) so I would work out whether either of them are solid potentials that you’d use before looking at other suggestions. Good luck!

I don’t have any children yet, by my SO and I have talked a lot about names. We seem to have almost the exact same naming style for girls. The main difficulty with girls will be narrowing down our list. As for boys, he hates all of my names and I don’t like his names as they are all top 50, maybe even top 20. As a 90s [name_f]Emily[/name_f], I don’t want a common name for my kids. He has also pointed out that most of my favorite boy names are surnames and he really dislikes the idea of that  The only name we both love for a boy is [name_u]Sage[/name_u] and my family thinks that [name_u]Sage[/name_u] sounds ridiculous on a boy. We both like his middle name, [name_m]Gordon[/name_m], so that might be what we go with in the future, but neither of us love it.

For some reason, [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_u]Arden[/name_u], and [name_f]Molly[/name_f] all came to me as suggestions for you.

I’m due in [name_u]February[/name_u] too  congrats to you. Girl names are hard for me. And then thrown on top of that trying to agree with someone else makes it even harder haha

I’m pregnant now and my husband obligingly just agreed he liked the two girls combos that have been at the top of my list for the last couple of years.

For our boys name I want to use my late granddads name as the middle and as he says “there’s no arguing against that” so that’s settled as well :kissing_heart:. We then had two boys first name ideas we both liked and I suggested he picked his favourite out of the two since I like them both and have suggested all the other names!

Hopefully now when the baby arrives- due in 3 weeks time!- we don’t decide that it doesn’t suit any of the names we’ve selected or we will be in a pickle :joy:

@Paigefoster Is it just me?(probably) but I didn’t know you were pregnant again, I’m missing out :joy:

Yay [name_u]February[/name_u] babies :raised_hands:t4::raised_hands:t4:

I’m not having to agree with a partner but honestly my family have sort of turned into a partner and they are so opinionated. Naming is really challenging.

It’s so hard agreeing with anyone lol. I am really set on a name and everyone else hates it lol. If it was just me I would do it and that would be way easier :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Good luck though babe I’m sure you’ll find the perfect name :purple_heart::purple_heart:

It was really hard. First off, I expected a girl and had a huge girl list with a top favorite. And nothing for boys. But of course, found out it was a boy.

So… I did make a boy list. It was hard but I came up with some stuff I liked. Husband vetoed most names, yet was impressed with the list- he thought I got it off a blog or website. I was like, no I came up with all these combos! He didn’t make his own list or bring anything to the conversation which was frustrating. Maybe some would find it easier I guess but I wanted to know what names he wanted but he was kind of a blank slate but could tell me what names he DIDN’T like lol

He vetoed [name_u]Elias[/name_u] but yet said he liked [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]. I also convinced him to keep [name_m]Marshall[/name_m] in mind because it had some family significance.

We debated between [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] and [name_m]Marshall[/name_m] for MONTHS. It got to the point where I just wanted my husband to decide between the two names because one day I would like one better and the next day change my mind.

He finally decided on [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] so we just went with it. I am due in 5-6 weeks (he has been breach so 5 if we schedule a c-section). His name will be [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] [name_u]Reese[/name_u].

Out if your choices, I like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] BTW! Not a fan of [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is really pretty!

This is similar to my husband. He will
Shoot down names but rarely give any name options for me to hear.
