How Has Your Signature/Favorite Names Changed?

I was looking back at some screenshots off my phone and found my signature from when I first joined Nameberry.

I used to love–

A lot of these names I still like part of, but in a lot of ways my taste has changed. I now don’t particularly like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Roxana[/name_f], [name_u]Arden[/name_u], [name_f]Orianna[/name_f], Gloriana, [name_f]Anemone[/name_f], [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] for a girl, Lovetta, [name_m]Bram[/name_m] for a girl, [name_m]Cassius[/name_m] (I love [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] and [name_m]Casimir[/name_m] now), [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u], Cassander or [name_u]Tobin[/name_u].

It makes me wonder how much my taste will change in another year or two, and when I actually have kids.

So I’m wondering how have your tastes changed/stayed the same? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any of your old signatures? Which of your old favorite names do you still love, and which would you never use now?

I’m new to Nameberry, but I can definitely track the evolution of my style. When I was really young (3-4), I adored trendy names like [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] and [name_f]Samantha[/name_f]. Once I got into gymnastics, I began an infatuation with Russian names, including [name_f]Ekaterina[/name_f], [name_f]Aliya[/name_f], [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], [name_f]Ksenia[/name_f], etc. I still like these names, but not as much as I love the ones I currently do, which tend to be rare, flowy, and multicultural.

@auroracallista, [name_m]Evander[/name_m] Cousteau is gorgeous! And @danakatherine, I went through a Russian name phase too. I wanted to change my name to [name_f]Oksana[/name_f]!

Including my previous account, I’ve been on Nameberry for a little over a year. I’ve always been very selective with my favorite boys’ names, and my style hasn’t really changed beyond having a new favorite out of a group of five.

For girls’ names, I first started with pretty obscure names (such as [name_f]Amadea[/name_f] and [name_f]Tanaquil[/name_f]) and slowly progressed into a more familiar style. Lots of my favorites from even a handful of months ago feel a little tired to me now, and I feel like I’ve struggled to find a distinctive style until very recently.

Cécile [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f] is a long-time favorite, and I still love my former top name [name_f]Amparo[/name_f], but otherwise I tend to let go of former favorites when I feel like a change. It’s all very arbitrary for me.

@sulpice I’ve long admired Cécile [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f]! [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f] is a recent favorite of mine, and I always love finding people who like it as much as I do. That’s a funny and lovely anecdote about [name_f]Oksana[/name_f]- I still find it very cute, but as I am not Russian, definitely unusable!

To be honest, a lot of those combos make me cringe because they’re so mismatched. I loved the idea of having an outlandish guilty pleasure in the middle name spot, to the point where it went over the top. I still have a lot of these girl names somewhere on my list—[name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], [name_f]Lilja[/name_f], and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] are probably the only ones missing—and [name_f]Nola[/name_f] [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] is still my combo for her (although she’s lower on my list). [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Talia[/name_f], [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], Saela, [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_u]Elias[/name_u], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Nolan[/name_m], and [name_m]Torin[/name_m] are still in my top 15s!

I don’t have any saved lists from back then, but I believe when I first signed up here (9 years ago, wow!) my favourite names were something like [name_f]Jordana[/name_f] [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Anja[/name_f]’, [name_f]Lalita[/name_f] [name_f]Boheme[/name_f], [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] & [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Luka[/name_m]

On a different name community I was a part of for years before that, and as a young teen exploring ‘creative names’ my favourites were Destynii Skiye & Whyatt Huntyr, so yeah, that was a thing…horrendous! Ugh… :confused:

Shoot…I wish I could remember old signatures of mine! I do remember that [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] being one that disappeared a couple of years ago and that [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] has largely stayed consistent. Style-wise, not much has changed, though I’m a bit less reserved (for instance, [name_u]Dove[/name_u] is on our list as a middle name. I would’ve never picked that before. We also like “older” names that we may not have had the gumption to use before).

The only other observation that I can make on how mine has changed is that I used to put names that I liked, as an individual. I joined Nameberry when I was a single college student. Now, however, I’m married and have a whole other person and his preferences, background, family, etc to consider. The names that now make my signature are only ones that we have agreed on.
