How high will Atticus go?

I’ve long liked the name [name]Atticus[/name] and DH is on board with it too. But I’m worried about how popular it is going to get. [name]Mila[/name] was 300 places less popular when we chose it in 2009. Is [name]Atticus[/name] going to head into the top 100 in the next couple of years? Or will it sink back down again (which I wouldn’t mind at all!).

Hard to say. If it keeps up with the same rate of growth it’s had in the last few years, it’ll likely reach the top 100 in about 3-4 years time. I see so much talk about it that I can’t see it suddenly dropping off any time soon, it might just start slowing in popularity. I can definitely see it becoming a top 100 name though.

Not very high. I don’t think [name]Atticus[/name] will ever be overly popular. Nowhere near as popular as [name]Mila[/name] has become!

I think it will go up a little but it probably won’t become that popular.

Hmm, well, mixed opinions so far! Lol

Well it might not go that high but remember that is it a favorite character of Gone With The Wind so you never know. that and its the kijd of name people are choosing for thier kids now.

I’d be very surprised if [name]Atticus[/name] ever reaches [name]Mila[/name]'s popularity. I think [name]Atticus[/name] is just about at its peak, whereas I won’t be at all surprised if [name]Mila[/name] continues to climb. [name]Mila[/name] was the perfect combination of simple/accessible and exotic with a dash of popular-celebrity-association, so I think its rise in popularity was fairly predictable.

I don’t see [name]Atticus[/name] soaring up in the charts. It’s a great name with a great reference in To Kill a Mockingbird, but has a kind of hipster-vibe that doesn’t appeal to everyone. [name]Mila[/name] I think is rising due to becoming a known name because of [name]Mila[/name] Kunis as well as feeling like a less common alternative to other popular names ([name]Mia[/name], [name]Maya[/name], and [name]Amelia[/name] come to mind).

I have a feeling it will sink. I always have to remind myself what may be popular on NB isn’t necessarily the real world. I have never met an [name]Atticus[/name] ever and I worked with children for a long time still never coming across one. I think you’ll be safe! And if you and DH are on board I say use it [name]Mila[/name] and [name]Atticus[/name] sound adorbs together.

Not high. [name]Even[/name] if it pops up to the top hundred for a year or two, I feel like it’ll pop right back down. It’s never gonna be an [name]Aidan[/name] or [name]Ethan[/name].

Yep. [name]Atticus[/name] is more board popular than it is in real life.

Very well said about the appeal of [name]Mila[/name], couldn’t have worded it better myself.

@ftmdad - I think you mean To Kill A Mockingbird! That’s okay, you probably haven’t read it in school yet

I think [name]Atticus[/name] will be safe. It’s a wonderful name!

I would be incredibly surprised if [name]Atticus[/name] entered the top 100. It’s one of those names that’s trendy but doesn’t have the widespread appeal to become popular. In other words, [name]Atticus[/name] only appeals to a certain group of parents. I also see it as a name whose popularity will be inhibited by the fear of trendiness and/or popularity. Parents fear that [name]Atticus[/name] is going to become too trendy or popular so they don’t use it, and then the name never rises as high as it could have.

Wow looked it up and am surprised to see the exponential-type rise in popularity. It’s a difficult question to answer! But I certainly don’t think it appeals to everyone, I don’t expect it to be the next [name]Mason[/name]. What you do know is that in the US about 1 in 2800 boys was named [name]Atticus[/name] last year (1 in 5600 children) so it is quite unlikely that a little [name]Atticus[/name], born this year, will run into another one in his school.

[name]Mila[/name] Kunis wasn’t half as popular in 2009, and there are a lot of names I’d describe as simple/accessible and exotic. Hindsight is 20/20 of course.

I absolutely adore the name [name]Atticus[/name], so I’ve had this same concern. Honestly, even if it gets to the top 100, I don’t see it getting much more popular than that. I don’t think it has the sort of broad appeal that most of the top names have. I think you should be safe to use it without worrying about it becoming epidemically popular.

BTW I also [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Mila[/name] and [name]Atticus[/name] together…what an adorable sibset!!
