So my mother and I got into a slight disagreement over husband’s and my short list of names.
I have a son, [name_m]Liam[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m], from a previous relationship, but my husband legally adopted him when we were married. Aparently, the names that we are holding near and dear to our hearts to not “flow” with our last name: [name_m]Ritter[/name_m]
What do you think? [name_f]Do[/name_f] our names flow or is my mother right and we’re setting oursevles up for weird sounding names:
Yeah, I think none have an amazing flow. Perhaps the best are [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m] and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m].
If I were you, I’d try to avoid names which end with a consonant sound and are too T or R heavy.
Flow may be more or less important depending on the person. Personally I like for names to have a decent flow, but others may not care.
From that list I think [name_u]Micah[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m], [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m] and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m] flow best.
I also think [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] [name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m] (though it’s probably a bit heavy on the Rs) and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Vivianne[/name_f] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m] from your signature flow well.
The good news is: none of them stand out as exceedingly bad. I’m going to concentrate on how the first names sound with your surname because these two are the ones we use the most in everyday life.
Best Flow: Boys- [name_u]Evan[/name_u] and [name_u]Micah[/name_u] (fave is [name_u]Micah[/name_u]); Girls - [name_f]Juliette[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] (fave is [name_f]Juliette[/name_f])
Worst Flow: Boys - [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] (a little too harsh with your surname); Girls - [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] (too many r’s)
Question: Is flow important? - To me, yes. The “sound” of the names together is just ONE of the criteria for a great name. Let’s face it, the names are going to be said aloud a lot throughout life (doctor’s office, school, graduation, wedding etc…). However, it’s entirely up to the individual to decide on how important it is for them.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any 3-syllable names you love for boys?
For me it depends on how you pronounce your last name. Is it more like “ridder” or do you clearly hear the "t"s while saying [name_m]Ritter[/name_m]?
[name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m] - quite r heavy
[name_u]Micah[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m] - if pronounced like “ridder”, I like it otherwise it is “tt” heavy
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m] - the flow isn’t too great (all have 2-syllables) and when you say the combo out loud it sounds very repetitive. For me it would make a difference if the middle name would end in a vowel, thus creating a more “open” sound -> ex. [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m] / [name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_u]Kai[/name_u] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m] / [name_u]Micah[/name_u] wouldn’t need one
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m] - r heavy but my favourite
[name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] Bomina [name_m]Ritter[/name_m] - not a fan of this spelling, the flow is nice though
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m] - nms, flow works
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_u]Patrice[/name_u] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m] - nms
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m] - also nms but the flow is good
For me flow isn’t the most important criteria unless you want to call them by both names.
I think they all sound fine, but I would avoid names beginning or ending in -r. Favorites out of those you listed:
[name_m]Liam[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m].
[name_u]Micah[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m].
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m].
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m].
And my one suggestion would be:
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_u]Patrice[/name_u] [name_m]Ritter[/name_m].
