How is Eva pronounced?

I say [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_m]Ah[/name_m]. When it sounds more like [name_f]Ava[/name_f], it reminds me of Hitler’s wife. But I was constantly around a dad who liked watching the history channel when I was a kid, so I’m probably the only one who would make that connection.

I pronounce it like Eh-va (I think it’s pronounced like this in all Slavic languages), but if I’m reading something in English my brain will automatically say Ee-va. I much prefer Eh-va though.

Literally every person I know says [name_f]Eva[/name_f] like “ev-ah” (or like Outkast says, “forevah, evah?” not ee-vah.

I’ve never heard anyone pronounce it eh-va and I’ve only used ee-va.

[name_f]Eva[/name_f] like [name_u]Ever[/name_u]

I have not heard it pronounced Eh-va specifically, but I would not bat an eye if it was. [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is the Latin form of the name [name_f]Eve[/name_f] and Eh-vah (it’s not exactly like [name_u]Ever[/name_u] without the R to my American accented ears…it’s more like the beginning sound of [name_f]Ava[/name_f] without the obvious “ay” diphthong sound) is how you would pronounce it in Latin, which is why a lot of other languages pronounce it that way–they’re Latin based languages. =] So is English, but our pronunciations have gotten lazy, so to speak, over the years and have strayed some from the Latin roots. I personally think Eh-vah sounds much prettier than Ee-vuh, so I would want to pronounce it that way if I used the name. And since [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f] sound different to me, just using [name_f]Ava[/name_f] would not be an option.

duplicate post…argh

My name is [name_f]Eva[/name_f] prounced Eh-va. Anyone I have met always says Ee-va and its always been like that. I have never met another [name_f]Eva[/name_f] who has the same pronunciation as me and I don’t think I ever will. It would be SHOCKING to me if i ever met another Eh-va
