How long are your shortlists?

I see people with only 2-3 combos for each gender, whereas i have 6 boys combos and 26 girls combos! [name_m]How[/name_m] do you keep your shortlists down? Like, decide which ones you would actually use. [name_m]How[/name_m] many names do you have on your short and long lists?

So far, it is 1 boy combo and 2 girl combos. There are tons more names that I love or like, and DH has his favorites, too, but we limit our actual short list to the combos that we both love/agree on :slight_smile: another way we keep it limited is to think about whether or not we can see ourselves using these names constantly forever or if they grow tired to our ears.

I have varying lengths of shortlists! My very shortest, would realistically use, DH approved shortlists are only around 5 names per gender, but the lists I actually think of as my “shortlists” are about 15-20 names per gender, including names that have been ruled out for real life use but I just can’t bring myself to cross off the list!

I have three girls’ names in my list, and only two boys’ names! I only include the names and combos that I can realistically see myself using, not just ones I like - although, admittedly, I’m very fussy, so most people probably have longer lists than I do. It sounds like we have the opposite problem - you like too many names, and I don’t like enough!
There are some names - like [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] - that I love, but are already the names of family members. For this reason, I cross them off straight away, no matter how much I like them. I’m just hoping no-one in my family names their daughter [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] before I can!

I have quite long shortlist for girl, and quite shorter for boys. In reality, if my husband dislike any of my choices, I would probably fight with him for five combos on my list for girl and probably one or two for boys.

I have my long list of names I love, but when I add my fiance’s opinion, I realistically have 5-6 names from each gender that we would truly use and work with our last name, though we have other names we like, but don’t love combos for.

I have about 20 names (not combos) on each. However, I haven’t filtered these past DH yet, so that is just my shortlist. Our combined shortlist is likely to drop down to about 5 of each. He is pretty picky.
