I am just curious, how made up do names that end in [name]Belle[/name] sound to you beyond the common ones [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Arabelle[/name], [name]Annabelle[/name] & [name]Mirabelle[/name]?
I mean names like [name]Clarabelle[/name], [name]Adabelle[/name], [name]Idabelle[/name], I’m am aware they were used as one name; but doesn’t it sound like a smush?
I like certain belle names over others. Like I like [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Arabelle[/name], [name]Annabelle[/name], but I don’t like any of the others, they just don’t sound right?
It depends upon the name - I generally like -belle, -anna and -beth names.
I like [name]Rosabelle[/name], [name]Amabel[/name], Emmabelle, Kirabelle, [name]Corabelle[/name], Lilabelle…
I don’t see them as the same as other “madeup” names. These are two real names combined, not random sounds shoved together. I wouldn’t use them, though, because they probably wouldn’t age really well. Maybe for a middle or a good GP list, lol.
I love [name]Adabelle[/name]! Adabeth, too.
Name “smushes” can be iffy, but I generally don’t think they sound made up, particularly when they have those typical compound name endings: -belle/-bel, -anne/-anna, -beth, -lee, -el/-elle, and so on. It’s when you start getting into Reneesmee territory that the names start feeling made up and hopelessly awkward. There’s a big difference, in my mind, between something like [name]Christabel[/name] and something like Janisapril.
It depends. I can’t stand most belle/bella names (totally overdone and just annoying to me now, sorry to those that like them). The only one I like is [name]Annabel[/name] (spelled that way). I think names like [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Annabel[/name], and similar are fine. Names like say, Gracibelle, [name]Arabella[/name], etc sound too cutesy and a little made up to me. Like, hey I like this name, let’s throw “belle/bella” on the end of it so it’s cute for my little baby princess!
But like I said, it really depends on the name. Some sound fine (even if they’re NMS at all), others sound like a smoosh name.
Smooshing isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I like [name]Idabelle[/name] and [name]Adabelle[/name].
Usually I love it, but [name]Clarabelle[/name], [name]Adabelle[/name], and [name]Idabelle[/name] soounds weird to me. It’s not that those are ugly names, I just (much) more like it as a single [name]Clara[/name], [name]Ada[/name], and [name]Ida[/name]. Other variation but not with this -[name]Belle[/name].
However, I want to add Lucibelle. Not sure about the spelling but [name]Lucy[/name]+[name]Belle[/name] sounds pretty cute to me.
I think it depends, for me. I mean, I love [name]Adabella[/name] and Adorabella, but Miabella and Carabella/[name]Clarabella[/name] and [name]Mariabella[/name] and such… too much for me. I do like [name]Corabelle[/name]/[name]Corabella[/name], though. A lot of them are purposely smooshes, though, but they’re mostly recognized now. I’m pretty sure that’s how [name]Annabelle[/name]/[name]Annabel[/name] started, but now it’s recognized as a well-loved and very legitimate name.
I only like the long-established ones and the less ‘belle-y’ the better! (e.g. [name]Arabella[/name], [name]Annabel[/name], [name]Isobel[/name], [name]Mirabelle[/name]). And not trying to ‘correct’, just share: according to some of my babyname books, [name]Annabel[/name] was derived from [name]Amabel[/name] and [name]Arabella[/name] is pretty old, not a modern smoosh
I have heard that. I was going off of memory, and this link: Nickelodeon Parents | Printables, coloring pages, recipes, crafts, and more from your child’s favorite Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. shows.
It doesn’t say it directly, but I know I’ve seen on some site that [name]Annabelle[/name] is a modern smoosh of “[name]Anna[/name]” and “[name]Belle[/name]”. Not saying it’s right, I just know I’ve seen it. And it seems like that’s what that link was referring to (along with [name]Amabel[/name]).
I quite like it. My parents knew a family and all the girls had a “belle” name - [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Annabelle[/name], [name]Rosabelle[/name], [name]Christabelle[/name] and Heatherbelle (I have not heard of the latter 2 anywhere before, but they’re quite cute. Not sure how Heatherbelle would age though).
I like [name]Idabelle[/name]! [name]Clarabelle[/name] and [name]Adabelle[/name] are nice too, but there’s something spunky about [name]Idabelle[/name], [name]IMO[/name]!
More on [name]Annabelle[/name]: too long to translate so here is a cut & paste:
"Meaning first name: Annabelle is known since the thirteenth century, but was written while Anabel and derived from the name Amabel, Aimable, who, in France, has almost disappeared and only survives in the Anglo-Saxon form of a diminutive, Mabel .
It Annabelle is likely then was taken to a compound name, meaning “Anne Belle”, thus linking the grace (that is the Hebrew etymology of Anne) and beauty. Annabelle has experienced a period of great success in the 1970s, surpassing even his first name-mother, Anne. This popularity has now fallen. "
