So just a preface, my first baby’s initials are JJM. I’ve posted about this before, but it’s been a while and I’d like some new input!
My #1 name for girl #2 is [name_f]Marceline[/name_f]. BUT I don’t love any middles with it so far, except for:
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
I don’t know what the deal is. I think part of it is that the emphasis feels off on a lot of middle names for me, but sounds right with these Ma- names?
Anyway. If I went with any of those, initials would be MMM. And we’d be in a pattern of alliterative first and middle names, which we wouldn’t be likely to follow with any boys, and I don’t have any other girl names picked out, so not sure if we would if we had a third girl.
I kind of feel like MMM isn’t that big of a deal, especially when it’s already going to be M_M regardless of what middle we choose. But then I think it might be too much.
I tend to think three of the same initials can verge on the corny or nursery rhyme sounding. If you really can’t find anything else though I think it’s OK. It might depend on your surname too. E.g. I think [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u] is OK but any more shared or cutesy sounds would sound a little silly, e.g. [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_m]Marshall[/name_m] or [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] McKenzie.
I am not a fan of alliteration, but it’s a very subjective thing. I do find it better if the vowel sounds vary. For example, [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] sounds nicer to me than [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. Three M names will likely sound sing-songy even if you vary the vowels, consonants and syllables. I would keep searching for a middle that doesn’t begin with M. Great suggestions above for names with similar sounds (especially the long a) to [name_f]Mavis[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]. I’ll add:
[name_f]Marceline[/name_f] [name_f]Rachel[/name_f]
[name_f]Marceline[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Marceline[/name_f] [name_f]Jade[/name_f]
[name_f]Marceline[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Marceline[/name_f] [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Marceline[/name_f] [name_f]Reina[/name_f]
I don’t mind alliteration but think 3 names in a row is too much. 2/3 doesn’t bother me but 3 does… this just personal preference. I don’t think you’re setting your child up for any sort of hassle if you use MMM. But it doesn’t sound good to my ear and I personally eliminated a C middle name for my next child because our last name starts with a hard C and so does our chosen first name.
If it doesn’t bother you then it’s fine. I know a little girl named whose initials are LLL and she rocks it. Instead of monograms she usually just gets L which I think is really cool. I wouldn’t worry about continuing it with other children.
I actually really like [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] McBeal! Enough of the sounds are different that it works really well.
