For the last two years I had my ideal girl’s name picked out. It is gorgeous, different but not to out there, has a rich quality that I loved the sound and feel of. It was my perfect name. But lately I have been having a lot of dreams about my baby girl and in the ones that I remember vividly I’ve been calling her [name]Ruby[/name]. In the two dreams I remember best I thought she “looked more like a [name]Ruby[/name]” and [name]Maeve[/name], which was my origonal (and perfect) choice somehow didn’t quite fit.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I love the name [name]Ruby[/name]. It’s a sweet, lovely, sparkling name. But I feel like it’s gotten a lot more popular lately and it just doesn’t have the same flare and verve as [name]Maeve[/name]. But I do like it a lot. In my dreams I just had such a strong affinity for the name. [name]How[/name] much stock would you put in a name you dream about?
[name]Ive[/name] had dreams like that before. If you fall in love with the name in the dream then awesome, it was meant to be. If not, then it was only a dream, and noyhing worth getting excited about.
I had a dream about an [name]Eden[/name], quite a few actually. I can still see little [name]Eden[/name] trying to crawl haha! I do love [name]Eden[/name], always have. But ive known 3 Edens born this year, and it kinda ruined it for me.
Hmm thats a tough one. I personally love the name ruby, my husband however refuses it saying its for old ladies. That said I believe sometimes dreams do have a deep significance and meaning… while other times they are [name]JUST[/name] dreams. I think it really still depends on your personal preference. If for some reason the dream is telling you your little girl is supposed to be named [name]Ruby[/name] I believe your preference will change as well. [name]Just[/name] my thought.
Well I once had a dream where I had a son named [name]Air[/name]?!! so for me it depends on the name itself, how much I like it, and how usable it actually is. Between [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Maeve[/name] I personally love [name]Maeve[/name]! but if [name]Ruby[/name] feels right then I think you should go for it.
[name]Ruby[/name] is a lovely name and it IS on my list…perhaps for a future daughter? But [name]Maeve[/name] is just SO gorgeous and, I feel, underused. I don’t think I could give up [name]Maeve[/name] as my name. I just wondered how much mind people pay to their dreams as I’ve heard several stories about names coming to mama’s in their dreams.
Oh, I love [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Maeve[/name]! [name]Maeve[/name] to me is sweet, simple and pretty much perfect because it isn’t overdone or popular. [name]Ruby[/name] used to be my favourite girl’s name but after hit #2 in the UK it kind of put me off. Having said that I’ve still only ever heard of three young [name]Ruby[/name]'s so I’m not sure it’s that popular in my area.
In terms of how serious to take dreams, it would definitely depend on the name. I had a dream where I had quads named [name]Pandora[/name], [name]Persephone[/name], [name]Paloma[/name] and [name]Phaedra[/name]. It did make me consider those names a little more and while I love them all I would only seriously consider [name]Persephone[/name] and [name]Pandora[/name] at the moment. They were two names already in the back of my mind, it just pushed them further into my thoughts. Had you ever thought of the name [name]Ruby[/name] before? If you love the name then it might be a sign, if not maybe [name]Maeve[/name] is the one for you. It is all to do with how you feel about each name, and by the looks of things the name [name]Ruby[/name] means a lot to you right now.
I had a dream the other night that we had named our daughter Fungi. :o [name]How[/name] horrible!! So, in that case… no way would I ever use that as a name!!! But, if I had dreamed about a daughter named [name]Ruby[/name], then that might be in the running. [name]Ruby[/name] is a great name, and I don’t see it getting terribly common. I think it entirely depends on the name and how you feel about it in the daylight.
I HAVE thought about [name]Ruby[/name] before, off and on and it’s been floating somewhere in the middle of my list for some time but it was never really at the top. But now I can’t seem to get it out of my head. The dreams have planted it firmly in the forefront of my psyche. It’s a beautiful name but I love love love the name [name]Maeve[/name]. Now I feel all confused.
Think [name]Ruby[/name] is so much better than mauve. [name]Ruby[/name] sounds so fun and sweet and carefree, while mauve sounds so serious and snooty. I think you should go with the dream. If it was a name you were thinking about, I think it is a sign you drempt it good luck!
samibee…not [name]Mauve[/name] the color lol [name]Maeve[/name]…the Irish queen’s name
Either way I’m kind of torn right now. I love [name]Maeve[/name] so much but I’m really have a hard time getting [name]Ruby[/name] out of my head now, too -_-
I never have dreams about names, or future children with specific names, but if I did I wouldn’t put much stock into them. To me, dreams are just dreams. I once dreamnt that I married [name]Milo[/name] Ventimiglia and we went skiing, but I don’t see that as a reason to run to hollywood and marry a man 19 years older then me. (I realize that it’s different when it comes to names, at leat a little.) My sister fell in love with the name [name]Mason[/name] because of a dream, but she’s really into that stuff.
If it turns out you love [name]Ruby[/name], then yay! But you say [name]Maeve[/name] has been your favorite for years. I think you ought to think about [name]Ruby[/name] a bit more. Maybe in a week or two you’ll say “Meh, I think I love [name]Maeve[/name] more.” It’s like when I want to write a story, and within a week I realize that it’s not as great as I thought.
I’d say just give it a bit more time.
[name]Hope[/name] that helps, even just a little!
Also, a sweet thing to do might be to come up with middle names for both names… then save the choosing for when you meet her! You’ll likely be able to look at her and know right away whether she’s a [name]Ruby[/name] or a [name]Maeve[/name].
I’ve had a mn picked out for [name]Maeve[/name] almost as long as I’ve loved the name. [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Luciana[/name]. I haven’t been able to think of anything I really like with [name]Ruby[/name].
In this case, I wouldn’t put much stock in it. I remember once having a dream that I had a baby girl, and [name]Isabelle[/name] and [name]Arianne[/name] (and all my other favorites) didn’t suit her at all. I ended up picking [name]Josephine[/name] nn [name]Josie[/name] out of nowhere, and I ended up hating [name]Josephine[/name] for a while because of that dream (probably solely because it was encroaching on [name]Isabelle[/name] and [name]Arianne[/name]!). If you love [name]Maeve[/name], you should hold onto it. Maybe keep [name]Ruby[/name] in the back of your mind, but you love [name]Maeve[/name] for a reason, you should use it. When you actually hold your daughter in your arms and are naming her for real, that’s when I’d worry about whether [name]Ruby[/name] was worth resurfacing.
For what it’s worth, I like [name]Ruby[/name] more than [name]Maeve[/name], but I can appreciate [name]Maeve[/name]'s beauty.
In fact my plan for the last couple of years was my first daughter would be [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Luciana[/name] and my second would be [name]Alice[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] but then I got undecided and thought it would be either [name]Alice[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], or [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]…or maybe [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Jane[/name] lol a little undecided there but I had a definite short list. [name]Ruby[/name] was way down on the possibly if I had a third or even fourth daughter it could be a contender list.
ashthedreamer I will probably stick with [name]Maeve[/name] because I love it so much. I can’t describe all the reasons I love [name]Maeve[/name] (the way it sounds, looks, feels…I love everything about it) but [name]Ruby[/name] has just been floating around in my brain refusing to go away.
I agree with a lot of the other posters.
To me it depends on if you like it.
I mean, imagine you had a dream that you were calling your baby Artichoke. Would you still be considering the dream seriously? Probably not.
Personally, I like the name [name]Ruby[/name] better than [name]Maeve[/name] (horrible youth spent surrounded by mauve, lol, it’s my mother’s favorite color), but if I were in your place I’d laugh at it and buy a ruby necklace
Well I had a dream i named my daughter [name]Dennis[/name]! So that I chalked up to restless sleep during pregnancy!
I think that my idea of a perfect name changes all the time.
I have let ho of a lot favorites for what began to feel right. So maybe wait til you meet her.
I love [name]Maeve[/name]! [name]Ruby[/name] is really nice too, I see your dilemma. So why don’t you use [name]Maeve[/name] for daughter #1 and [name]Ruby[/name] for daughter #2? If I had to pick between the two I’d go with [name]Maeve[/name]. I can see how a dream would make hte name stand out to you, but our mind just does weird things sometimes, I wouldn’t give a name in my dreams more weight than my favorite name.
