Okay berries, I am 33 weeks pregnant and getting closer and closer to naming my little angel. [name_f]My[/name_f] oldest daughter is 5 and her name is [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. I have been going back and forth with names for my entire pregnancy and I am back to get some views on something that really just irked me today!
Name issues:
[name_u]Paris[/name_u] - which actually (sorta kinda) has personal meaning to me. [name_f]Stella[/name_f] is named after my grandma, but prior to figuring out what to name her, I wanted her name to start with a P, as my name starts with a P. I’ve always loved the name [name_u]Paris[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] problems with it are this: The obvious [name_u]Paris[/name_u] [name_m]Hilton[/name_m] association. [name_m]Even[/name_m] for kids named [name_u]Paris[/name_u] now in school, I can only hope that other little kids won’t make the [name_u]Paris[/name_u] [name_m]Hilton[/name_m] connection. [name_f]My[/name_f] other problem with the name is I’ve done some research and the fact that it was predominately, at one point, a “masculine” name kinda bugs me. I’ve always loved the name of the city. I guess I’m more of a fan of the feminine names but [name_u]Paris[/name_u] has always called out to me and the closer I’m getting to my due date, I still really love this name and I’d love that we would both have the same initials.
[name_f]Farrah[/name_f] - I asked a friend about this name this morning and she immediately brought up the girl from Teen Mom…I don’t even WATCH teen mom let alone give two craps about this girl. I like the fact that it means happiness, and I overall think it’s just a really pretty name and I can see her being named this too.
I guess the whole association with famous people or tv characters just really bother me overall. It’s like, if I named my daughter [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] are people going to assume she’s named after [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] [name_m]Biel[/name_m] or [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] [name_m]Simpson[/name_m]? (I am not naming my daughter Jessica or even considering it-just using this as an example) I just never thought it was fair because it’s just silly to me unless a parent outright says yes, I totally named my daughter after [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] [name_m]Simpson[/name_m].
These are the other names I’m considering:
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f] - Except I hate every nickname that goes along with this name except [name_u]Val[/name_u])
[name_f]Jaslene[/name_f] - I love the sound/spelling of this.
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f] - Another name that could have went along with [name_u]Paris[/name_u] and [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] because of the American Pie association, though again, it wouldn’t be in her generation.
[name_f]Selena[/name_f] - I like this but I fear it’s too close to [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and I again hate all possible nn’s that go along with it.
Marisa or Marina - Love the water/sea meanings.
Her middle name is set, so with that in mind, tell me your favorite:
Paris Dawn Willow
Farrah Dawn Willow
Valentina Dawn Willow
Jaslene Dawn Willow
Nadia Dawn Willow
Fiona Dawn Willow
Anyway, thought on these name connections? Thoughts on any of these names? Help a mommy out!
I think it depends on how up with pop culture you are as to whether you would associate names with celebrities. I am a celebrity freak so I associate names with celebrities all the time.
As for the names you’ve listed, my favourites are [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] & [name_f]Selena[/name_f]
It entirely depends on the uniqueness of the celebrity name; I can’t think of another celebrity named [name_u]Paris[/name_u] besides [name_u]Paris[/name_u] [name_m]Hilton[/name_m], and [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] is unique to the Teen Mom girl and [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] Fawcett. Unfortunately, the younger generation will think of the Teen Mom before the [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]'s [name_u]Angel[/name_u], and the TM [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] is a porn star, so I’d avoid that name. But for your other example, [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], everyone knows multiple ladies named [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] in real life and in the celebrity world: [name_m]Simpson[/name_m], [name_m]Biel[/name_m], Lange, [name_f]Alba[/name_f], etc.
Based on your post, I’d nix [name_u]Paris[/name_u] and [name_f]Farrah[/name_f], but I absolutely adore [name_f]Nadia[/name_f]. I don’t think the [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] character made as much of an impression on pop culture, so the “American Pie” character is not something to worry about. I think [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f] are an adorable sibset and [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] is a name that works great on a girl at any age.
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] is a great name but alas I don’t like your choices for baby number 2. [name_u]Paris[/name_u] (see thread on location to understand how much this is disliked) and [name_f]Jaslene[/name_f] are so tacky to me, [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] a bit better, [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] is an 80’s name, and [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] sounds like [name_f]Narnia[/name_f]. [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] and [name_f]Selena[/name_f] sound Latin and don’t go with [name_f]Stella[/name_f] at all. Sorry. What about [name_u]Wren[/name_u]? [name_f]Lyla[/name_f]? [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]? [name_f]Nell[/name_f]? [name_f]Cora[/name_f]? [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]? [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]? much classier.
I stick with my original vote for [name_f]Valentina[/name_f]. [name_u]Paris[/name_u] is infamous and I don’t think it’s fair to bestow that name on your child. [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] is interesting and I do not watch Teen Mom but apparently people do. It just doesn’t give the same feel as [name_f]Stella[/name_f].
I still remember your previous post wanting a name that people loved to hear. I don’t think you’ll get that with [name_u]Paris[/name_u] or [name_f]Farrah[/name_f]. [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] is gorgeous. [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] is nice but something about it sounds harsh next to [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. Jasleen sounds like a mush of [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] and [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]. [name_f]Selena[/name_f] is pretty but a bit matchy with [name_f]Stella[/name_f].
I think the largest problem you would have on your list is [name_f]Selena[/name_f]. Younger girls will definitely know who [name_f]Selena[/name_f] Gomez is. [name_f]My[/name_f] baby sisters loved the TV show she was on, Wizards of [name_u]Waverly[/name_u] Place. I’m not sure you would want anyone assuming (though I never would) that you named your child after [name_m]Justin[/name_m] Bieber’s long time girlfriend.
I also agree that I would never assume [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] was from American Pie. I think that and [name_f]Marisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Marina[/name_f] are you best bets. Good luck!!
That’s a tough one to answer [name_f]Pamela[/name_f]. I think when a celebrity uses such a unusual name it seems as if the rest of the wold is copying it when they use it. Then there are the [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]'s however [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] was such a popular name prior to [name_m]Simpson[/name_m]'s popularity it could be any face with that name.
[name_u]Paris[/name_u] is what [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] named his daughter etc…but try changing it up a bit like:
Parisha, or Parisell, Parisene, so she can proudly call her name her own.
I love [name_u]Paris[/name_u] [name_f]Valentina[/name_f]!
The rest of your choices are beautiful with the exception of [name_f]Nadia[/name_f], [name_f]Marina[/name_f] as they sound a little 1975 ish.
Yes [name_u]Paris[/name_u] does make me think of [name_u]Paris[/name_u] [name_m]Hilton[/name_m], but that isn’t necessarily a huge issue because she was like really famous when The Simple Life was on TV (like a decade ago). I haven’t really seen much of her lately, so I doubt your child or their friends will ever make that association.
[name_f]Farrah[/name_f] - It does make me think of [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] Fawcett. But again, your children’s generation probably really won’t really know who she is. I think [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] is a really sweet name.
[name_f]Jessica[/name_f] - There are so so so many [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]'s in the world, I doubt anyone will ever assume its because of a celebrity. And that includes this generation.
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f] - Is very lovely. I know [name_f]Salma[/name_f] Hayek has a daughter with that name, but I don’t see it being an issue.
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f] - [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t see any celebrity connection with this name.
[name_f]Selena[/name_f] - I do think of [name_f]Selena[/name_f] Gomez first. But its a such a lovely name.
[name_f]Jaslene[/name_f] - Makes me think of Vaseline.
[name_f]Marisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Marina[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Marisa[/name_f] better.
You make a good point! When I was born my parents almost named me [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] and I think it’s a lovely name! At the moment I’m in love with the name [name_m]Macaulay[/name_m] but almost everyone I come across says to me ‘You only like that name because of [name_m]Macaulay[/name_m] Culkin’ and that really annoys me Yes I love [name_m]Macaulay[/name_m] Culkin he’s a fantastic actor but I also love the name anyway. I think no matter what you go for people are going to make some association with a famous person even if it has nothing to do with why you love that name!
Thank you all for your help! I’m still struggling hard on what to name this miracle! Thank all of you for your suggestions and hopefully I can get some more suggestions! I am going to edit this post with her middle name and maybe that will stir up more help!
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f] - what about [name_f]Vita[/name_f], [name_f]Veena[/name_f], [name_f]Tina[/name_f], or just Vee?
[name_f]Jaslene[/name_f] - I love the sound/spelling of this. I actually like this, too.
[name_f]Selena[/name_f] - This makes me think of [name_f]Selena[/name_f] Gomez.
[name_f]Marina[/name_f] - Nms but it’s okay
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f], [name_u]Paris[/name_u], [name_f]Farrah[/name_f], [name_f]Marisa[/name_f] - I think [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] is useable. When I google [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] and [name_f]Marisa[/name_f] all I see is images of big boobs. As for [name_u]Paris[/name_u], I think of [name_u]Paris[/name_u] [name_m]Hilton[/name_m], [name_u]Paris[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m], and a really pretentious girl I personally know who insists on being called [name_u]Paris[/name_u] even though it isn’t her name.
When in doubt I Google a name and look at the images. If all I see is trashy stuff, celebrities, boobs, lingerie, and weird products …it really turns me off. But if I see lots of different kinds of people with that name, or literary & historical good stuff, it helps me feel better about the name.
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f] & [name_f]Stella[/name_f] are a gorgeous duo (I love [name_f]Leni[/name_f] as a nn but [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], [name_f]Nina[/name_f], [name_f]Vita[/name_f], [name_f]Tia[/name_f] could work too though they may not be the most intuitive! I think [name_f]Marina[/name_f] is also absolutely gorgeous and my first choice from your list (love nn [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] or [name_f]Mina[/name_f]).
For the name [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] I hate all nicknames though! [name_u]Val[/name_u] is okay and I can see myself calling her [name_u]Val[/name_u]. But [name_f]Tina[/name_f] and the other nicknames bug me, not quite sure why! And I have never thought about googling names for images! That is a great idea and maybe you just helped me nix [name_f]Marisa[/name_f], [name_u]Paris[/name_u] and [name_f]Farrah[/name_f]. And [name_f]Jaslene[/name_f] really is a pretty name, I think! I’m glad someone else agrees!
[name_f]Nina[/name_f] is the only nickname I’ve liked other than [name_u]Val[/name_u]! If I do end up going with [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] her full name will definitely be used more than [name_u]Val[/name_u]. V is okay but I have issues with the other possible nicknames. And [name_f]Marina[/name_f] is gorgeous too but I’m still bouncing around all these names in my head!
