I feel like everyone on her would most likely know how to pronounce, but I’m not sure that the rest of the population would. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
My top three names currently:
[name_f]Ansley[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] <-- I worry that it’s too close to Miles and I know that everyone would pronounce it like Amelia, so I will most likely not use it.
Scarlett was a contender, but it’s popular in my state and I don’t love it.
My ds2 is Asher.
I think [name_f]Isla[/name_f] would be pronounced correctly by most people, as many already know words like island and isle. I think the only confusion may be in Spanish-speaking areas, where it may be pronounced differently. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is my favorite of those options!
I’m in Australia, it’s a popular name and I’ve never known it be mispronounce.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] is a pretty popular name these days, plus with the similarities to island, isle, aisle as a pp said, I think 90% of Americans know how to pronounce it.
It depends on where you live I think. I’m from [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] and I’d be quite surprised in all honesty if someone here couldn’t pronounce it, but I think in Spanish it is pronounced differently, so if you live in a Spanish speaking area or a place with a large Spanish speaking population, you might get the Spanish pronounciation.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] has grown in popularity the last few years, and I think that’s helped with pronunciation. People are more familiar with it.
However, I’ve still met the odd one that’s been all “What? Iz-la?? What kind of name is that?!”
I love [name_f]Isla[/name_f] most out of your list. If you like it, I say use it.
I think it’s popular enough to where it wouldn’t be mispronounced all that often.
I definitely said EES-la the first few times I saw it because I took Spanish and it is the word for island. But I agree that it’s getting more popular so even if it is occasionally mispronounced it will probably become more familiar to people over time. If you want to avoid the issue, [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] is similar if you like it.
I don’t think it would mispronounced often. Its how you spell the name. I know someone who named their daughter “[name_f]Mela[/name_f]” (me-lah)… To me it’ll be said mel-ah 50% of the time. With the spelling I-S-L-A, I don’t think many people would have trouble with it.
I don’t think it’ll be mispronounced all that often due to its popularity, though it does depend where you live.
Funny story about isla. I live in rhode Island so you would assume most people here would be able to pronounce it. It was one of two choices for my daughter. After two days of everyone walking around saying IS-LA. I went with my second choice. That was 8 years ago it’s grown in popularity quite a bit since then so you should be fine. I still regret not using it is such a pretty name.
I still stumble on pronouncing [name_f]Isla[/name_f]…
I have never heard [name_f]Isla[/name_f] been mispronounced so I wouldn’t be worried!
