How popular is Charlotte exactly?

I know it is #27 on the SSA list, but I have only met one [name]Charlotte[/name] my whole life. Granted, I have only met one [name]Mary[/name] too. Is [name]Charlotte[/name] going to be the sensation that [name]Jennifer[/name] was or [name]Emma[/name] is?

Nothing will [name]EVER[/name] be as popular as [name]Jennifer[/name] was, the naming pool is simply too large now. [name]Even[/name] [name]Emma[/name] doesn’t come close!!

As for [name]Charlotte[/name], I know not a single one, it’s in the top 50 where I live I think. 78 Charlottes out of 50,000+ babies born in 2011. 84 in 2010, 62 in 2009, 58 in 2008, 32 in 2007, 33 in 2006, 30 in 2005, 27 in 2004, and 22 in 2003, for just the last decade or so. That’s about 426 in the last decade, out of probably 500,000 babies. (Of just the [name]Charlotte[/name] spelling, a handful of minimal numbers of other spellings were recorded) Whereas there were 283 Jennifers in 1990 alone, 244 in 1991, which means in two years, there were more Jennifers where I live than there have been Charlottes in the last decade!!! and that’s AFTER the [name]Jennifer[/name] boom. It would take one heck of a name to become THAT popular again.

Having said that (above), [name]Charlotte[/name] is still an extremely popular name. I wouldn’t count on your child being the only one in her class. She’s bound to run into a number of Charlottes along the way. When I was born, [name]Sarah[/name] was very popular. At school, I was one of four Sarahs in my class.

I think it’s getting quite popular. My husband’s friend has a daughter named [name]Charlotte[/name] and there are actually 2 in my daughter’s class at her Montessori school. She’s two. There’s 8 children in her class with 4 of them being girls: [name]Nora[/name] (my daughter), [name]Gemma[/name] and 2 Charlottes (one goes by [name]Charlie[/name]).

It’s quite popular but I’ve only met two in my life and one [name]Carlotta[/name]. I’ve heard that it’s really popular as a MN but I don’t know anyone who’d have it as a MN so I think it depends a lot on where are you living.

I know a few little Charlottes–on par with names like [name]Mia[/name], [name]Ella[/name], and [name]Lily[/name] in my mind. It’s #14 in my state and I would expect it to climb to the top 10.

That said, it’s nowhere near [name]Jennifer[/name], as pp has said, no popular names today come close to those numbers, or even the numbers of [name]Jessica[/name]. Part of the reason I don’t worry too much about using a popular name. When I was teaching, I easily had 6 Charlottes over the course of 3 years, but never more than one in the same class.

I only know one [name]Charlotte[/name] and she is an adult, but I think it is still on the rise. Probably just depends on the area.

Giving your child a unique name doesn’t mean they’ll be the only one around either. My name was very unique growing up, but there was a girl in my class in grade school with the same name.

Yeah, I’m afraid it’s headed for the top 10, although it still would never be as widespread as [name]Jennifer[/name], as others have pointed out. I’m bummed because it’s my husband’s top choice at this point for our little girl, and I don’t want to completely rule it out but also don’t want to give him false hope. I don’t know if I’m okay with using a name that’s so popular.

I only know 1 [name]Charlotte[/name] my younger cousin. But I suppose it’s one of those names that will always remain quite popular.
Having said that [name]Charlotte[/name] is a classic and a very pretty name!

[name]Charlotte[/name] is #10 in my state, I hear it ALL THE TIME. I would check the stats for your region, numbers can vary pretty dramatically depending on where you live.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]! I am afraid it is headed for top 10 nationally (not just in a couple states), but it’s only ranked in the high 20s in my state. I have personally never met a [name]Charlotte[/name], so it still feels very fresh to me, even though a lot of people seem to love it.

Ha, I know plenty of Jennifers, but have never met a aingle [name]Charlotte[/name]. I think it’s a beautiful name (:

I’ve never met one either…but I’ve also never met an [name]Ella[/name], yet know three girls named Kestrel. So I think popularity (as in, the “how many will be in my daughter’s kindergarten class” question) is largely down to your location and your social circle. I do agree that [name]Charlotte[/name] is headed for the Top 10.

It’s number 6 where I live (in Australia) and I know of 3 under the age of 2. So it feels very popular to me!

I live in [name]California[/name], and I have never meet a [name]Charlotte[/name].

I don’t know: I plan to use [name]Charlotte[/name] one day [[name]Lord[/name] willing], but I only met three people named [name]Charlotte[/name], all older women.

Though it’s 42 in my state, I know a number of Charlottes. Most are under age 3, though two are preteens and one is an adult.
