How popular is Clara?

I think we decided on [name]Clara[/name] for a fn for baby girl number 2. But it seems that that name is everywhere (maybe I’m just noticing it more) especially here on nameberry. Also looking for middle name suggestions. I’ve looked at past posts and it seems that [name]Clara[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Clara[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] are the most popular combos. I’m just not loving either. Any other suggestions?

I don’t think it is super common, just seems to be running hot on Nameberry at the moment. It is on my shortlist of possibles for my daughter due next month!

Regarding middle name; we will be using Marianne (whatever fn we pick) but that is for my MIL, rather than picked to go with the name, although I think it works OK.

For other mn suggestions, this depends on how you pronounce it; there was a thread/poll that was posted recently on the pronounciation of this name, which seemed to generate a lot of discussion, I say it the Aussie/British way (Clahr-rah, not Claire-ah) if this is your intention then I think Clara Katinka sounds lovely… if you want something a bit different. I really like alliteration in name combos, so otherwise I would still be looking at other middle names starting with C or K, like Christine or Cassandra

[name]Clara[/name] is my favorite name and [name]Clara[/name] [name]Juliette[/name] is my combo! I think Nameberry style is very different from the major part of the world’s naming style. I see lots of names like [name]Harriet[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name] on here that I have never seen [name]IRL[/name]. I don’t see [name]Clara[/name] becoming that popular of a name outside of Nameberry.

I adore [name]Clara[/name]! I am not sure I can see using it as a FN but I have it as a MN on my list right now ([name]Rachel[/name] [name]Clara[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]). It’s a fairly prominent family name for me, which adds to my love for it. I think [name]Clara[/name] [name]Rachel[/name], [name]Clara[/name] [name]Eve[/name]/[name]Clara[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]/[name]Clara[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] are so sweet. I’ve also been crushing on [name]Clara[/name] [name]Iris[/name] a lot lately! [name]Clara[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name], [name]Clara[/name] [name]Felicity[/name], [name]Clara[/name] [name]Imogen[/name], etc., are all combos I’ve considered as well.

What about:

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Noelle[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Jocelyn[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Tabitha[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Louise[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Jemima[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Lucille[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Winter[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Willow[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Marguerite[/name]

As for [name]Clara[/name]'s popularity–there are a lot of names that are hugely popular on Nameberry that aren’t very well known in the real world! We just have different tastes from most people, lol. Last year [name]Clara[/name] ranked at number 167 on the SSA list in the US–which was 1822 girls born with the name. That averages out to about 36.5 girls born with the name in each state, which isn’t that popular at all, imo! If you love it, I would definitely go for it.

Good luck!

We are probably going to name one of our soon to be arriving twins [name]Clara[/name]. I have not met any kids named [name]Clara[/name] so it doesn’t seem particularly popular to me–I agree that people here on Nameberry seem to like it but that doesn’t seem representative of the population as a whole. We are contemplating [name]Genevieve[/name] as the middle name but I’m not 100% sure on that…

[name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Clara[/name]! It doesn’t seem to be way too popular. It is getting up there, but I would still use it. It’s adorably vintage and sweet. My favorite type of name. I’ve only met a few, and I think it’s a great alternative to [name]Emma[/name] or [name]Ella[/name] type names.

I love [name]Clara[/name] too! I don’t think it’s too popular. I know a 12 year old [name]Clara[/name] and a 7 year old [name]Clara[/name] but no baby Claras. It might be on the rise, but I don’t think you have to worry about your daughter having 5 other Claras in her class.

Could it be the European influence on nameberry? [name]Clara[/name]/[name]Klara[/name] is pretty popular over here, has entered the Top 30 in Germany, [name]Sweden[/name], Denmark, Switzerland and [name]France[/name] (even Top 10 here).

I think it’s pretty. If it weren’t sooo popular here, it would be on my list. Two of my friends would use it as well. I feel it’s one of the names almost everyone seems to like.

Suggestions:

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Seraphine[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Louise[/name] (I know a [name]Clara[/name] [name]Luise[/name], sounds pretty I think)
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Abigail[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] Eliazabeth
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Dannielle[/name]

You could also go with a modern middle name, depends on your first child’s name and middle name:

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Dane[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Avery[/name] or sth like that.

I love [name]Clara[/name]! For MNs how about:

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Joan[/name]

?

I don’t think many people dislike it. It’s vintage-sounding, pretty and delicate but also strong, and a more interesting variant of the popular [name]Claire[/name]. There isn’t much to dislike.

It’s always been one of my favourites - I think it’s gorgeous. Here in the UK I know quite a few little Claras, but of course it might be different in your area.

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Camille[/name] and [name]Clara[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] are a couple of my favourites.

I am loving [name]Clara[/name], also, right now.

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] is my favorite

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Anneliese[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Isabelle[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Sofia[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Christine[/name] (also like a lot)
