I know that [name]Ella[/name] ranked no. 13 in 2010 for girls. I just checked the stats for [name]Texas[/name] (where I live) and it ranked no. 37 in 2010. I know of one baby [name]Ella[/name] (the daughter of a girl I attend bible study with, but by no means a close friend and not someone I will see very often. Bible study goes on hiatus in [name]May[/name] and I am due in [name]July[/name] and will be assigned a new group in [name]September[/name] when we reconvene) and that is it. [name]How[/name] popular is it where you live? I have been trying to veer towards names off of the top 100. I keep coming back to [name]Ella[/name] though, and obviously regional popularity plays a huge part.
[name]Do[/name] you know any [name]Ella[/name]'s? What state/region are you from? Thanks in advance!
I don’t know any Ellas. Honestly, I don’t even know any Bellas, though, haha. I know one [name]Isabella[/name], and she goes by [name]Izzy[/name]/Izza the majority of the time. I think I’ve only come across three people who have Ellas on another name board I go on, and I’m sure they live all over the place. In my state (Pennsylvania), it ranks number 9, though, with 445 births in the last year, which surprises me, because it’s more common here than in the country as a whole, and I have met more Autumns and Elijahs (which rank MUCH further down the PA SSA list) than I think I could ever meet Ellas!
I can definitely see the appeal, though… [name]Ella[/name] has been a favorite of mine for nearly two years now, I think. If [name]Isabelle[/name] wasn’t my top choice for a girl, [name]Ella[/name] would most likely be on my top 10. As it is, I’m strongly considering using [name]Ella[/name] as a nn for [name]Isabelle[/name], along with [name]Bella[/name], [name]Belle[/name], and [name]Izzy[/name].
asthedreamer - I did remember I know an [name]Isabella[/name] whose nn has been [name]Ella[/name]! But she has taken to calling herself [name]Bella[/name] lately instead. So you are on the right track!
I think we had around 550-600 [name]Ella[/name]'s born in [name]Texas[/name] in 2010. I walked down the aisle at our wedding to “At Last” by [name]Ella[/name] [name]Fitzgerald[/name] and originally considered it because DH is a huge soft sentimental sap; however, we threw it out due to popularity. I’m just trying to decide how important popularity is to me at this point.
I named my dog [name]Ella[/name] in 2003 after our dog [name]Lilah[/name] died (we lived in the South). I heard them everywhere after that (on people babies). I looooove the name [name]Ella[/name]! And [name]Ellie[/name], and [name]Bella[/name], and Bellie lol.
our boy name is still [name]Ezra[/name] and we will likely recycle names in the future if this one is a girl. Are [name]Ezra[/name] and [name]Ella[/name] too matchy matchy as a sibset?
I agree with @caty-beth89… [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Ezra[/name] are pretty matchy. I do love both names, though! What about [name]Ezekiel[/name] if you go with [name]Ella[/name]? I think [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Ezekiel[/name]/[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Zeke[/name] are just adorable, and [name]Ezekiel[/name] has a similar feeling to [name]Ezra[/name], imo…
my sister is [name]Jane[/name] and I’m a [name]Joanna[/name]. Cousins are [name]Caitlin[/name] and [name]Casey[/name] (girl). I think I come from a family of matchy matchy, lol.
lol, fair enough. My concern is that they both start with the soft “eh” sound and end in the soft “ah” sound, and they’re both two syllables, and both four letters. [name]Jane[/name]/[name]Joanna[/name] and [name]Caitlin[/name]/[name]Casey[/name] aren’t QUITE that matchy, haha, but at least they’re not [name]Ezra[/name] and [name]Eliza[/name] or something, which I think is a lot worse.
I come from Australia where I also used to teach. [name]Ella[/name] is so common over there it is not funny. Usually 3 Ellas in each class right now. Nearly called one of my daughters [name]Ella[/name] and so relieved I did not, though I love the name. You live in the states though, so maybe not so bad over there?
I live in [name]England[/name] and [name]Ella[/name] isn’t the most popular name but there are a few. I know two both under the age of 3. [name]Ella[/name] [name]Faith[/name] and [name]Ella[/name]-[name]Louise[/name]. I like [name]Ella[/name] a lot.
The two most popular names for little ones in my area are, by far, [name]Jackson[/name] and [name]Ella[/name]. I hear [name]Ella[/name] everywhere in [name]Alabama[/name].
I don’t currently know any Ellas. The only one I ever met was back when I was in third grade. (she was born either 1987 or 1988)
In 2010, [name]Ella[/name] was ranked #35 amongst girl names in [name]Nevada[/name]. I’m surprised it’s ranked as high as it is; I have never overheard a mother call to an [name]Ella[/name]. I guess I tend to tune out the “top 100” names and mostly perk up when I hear a name that isn’t as everyday.
Yes, I think [name]Ezra[/name] and [name]Ella[/name] are far too close to each other. Ashthedreamer has already explained why though.
I’m from eastern Europe and here [name]Ella[/name] isn’t much popular, I just know few [name]Ella[/name]'s in my region. [name]Ella[/name] is popular as a nickname to [name]Eleonora[/name] though.
In New [name]England[/name], I see a lot of little/medium sized [name]Ella[/name]'s. In fact, I know more than one family with two daughters, [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name]… they seem to go together often here.
