I love the name [name_u]Luca[/name_u] but I feel it may be too popular. Thoughts?
Where I live I don’t know anyone named [name_u]Luca[/name_u]. It’s not unheard of but just not used often I guess.
It honestly depends on where you live. [name_u]Luca[/name_u] is popular on continental Europe but not so much so in other countries - in English speaking countries this is likely due to a preferred use of the more ‘anglo’ [name_m]Luke[/name_m] or [name_m]Lucas[/name_m].
Depends on where you live. I’d suggest checking your national and regional statistics for baby names.
Here in the UK it was rarely used outside of Italian communities until recently and is now fairly popular (it ranked at No. 58 last year in England and Wales). In the USA it ranked at No. 157.
I think, like most names, it really depends on where you live. For example, I live in [name_f]Nova[/name_f] [name_f]Scotia[/name_f], [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and only know one [name_u]Luca[/name_u], aged three, who’s full name is [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]. My sister on the other hand lives in Ottawa, [name_f]Canada[/name_f], and has complained to me a bit about how she wishes to also use the name [name_u]Luca[/name_u], but doesn’t want to because my niece already goes to day care with four other [name_u]Luca[/name_u]'s and knows of quite a few more ranging from ages 6 to 17.
When you think about the popularity of the name, I would suggest looking more into the amount of times you hear it where you live, rather than on Nameberry/other name websites. Your child will most likely spend his time in your town rather than on name sites. I say this because a lot of the time I find myself more concerned about how much I hear certain names online, instead of actually thinking about how much I hear it in my day to day life off of the internet. Nameberry is almost like it’s own little town
I know one boy [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and one girl [name_u]Luca[/name_u]
I don’t know any [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and don’t recall having met any before. I don’t know a lot of babies/young children though.
It’s a popular name in Australia but not in the same way as [name_m]Tom[/name_m]. [name_u]Luca[/name_u] is so wearable.
I live in Australia - have only met one boy [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and one girl [name_u]Luca[/name_u] in my time
I only know one little girl [name_u]Luca[/name_u] who is around 3.
