How similar is too similar? Watson / Webster

If you encountered a set of brothers named [name_m]Watson[/name_m] and [name_m]Webster[/name_m], would you think “that’s a good set of names” or “that’s too similar”? If the latter, do you have alternate suggestions that give a [name_m]Webster[/name_m] vibe but isn’t [name_m]Webster[/name_m]?

To me, [name_m]Watson[/name_m] and [name_m]Webster[/name_m] too similar. Not unusable, though. They have a similar vibe. I’m also not against the same initial, but at the same time, both names have strong S and T sounds in the middle. [name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Hudson[/name_m] or [name_m]Webster[/name_m] & [name_m]Weston[/name_m] would be much more complicated.

Anyway, I would suggest:
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Davis[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Cooper[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Baxter[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Stewart[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Newton[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_f]Bailey[/name_f]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Murphy[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Booker[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Clark[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_f]Campbell[/name_f]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Mercer[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Everett[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Camden[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Sawyer[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Parker[/name_m]

I think they would be easily mixed up because they are similar, even if not all the sounds are very similar. I don’t think they shouldn’t ever be used together, but I think it would create confusion for others trying to remember their names, as well as extra difficult for the parents trying not to mix up their names (which already happens enough with dissimilar names haha!).

I think [name_m]Watson[/name_m] and [name_m]Webster[/name_m] are too similar.

[name_m]Chester[/name_m]
[name_m]Clyde[/name_m]
[name_m]Dexter[/name_m]
[name_m]Howard[/name_m]
[name_m]Marshall[/name_m]
[name_m]Stanley[/name_m]

i love watson and webster together! but then again, i just love a good w name. if not webster, how about… :evergreen_tree:

harvey
shepherd
abner
franklin
ennis
marshall
leland
taft
roscoe
wacey
zane

hope this helps! :racehorse:

I think it’s alright.

I mean, I know twins Mia-Lotta and Lotta-Mia.

A little similar. [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]?

I would think [name_m]Watson[/name_m] and [name_m]Webster[/name_m] were matchy in style and initials - like both are surname-y and cool! I don’t think they’re too similar

If I had to suggest a few others with [name_m]Watson[/name_m] that are like [name_m]Webster[/name_m], I’d say…

[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m]
[name_m]Parker[/name_m]
[name_m]Beckett[/name_m]
[name_m]Baylor[/name_m]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]
[name_m]Kipton[/name_m]
[name_m]Sullivan[/name_m]
[name_m]Auden[/name_m]
[name_m]Linden[/name_m]
[name_m]Murphy[/name_m]

I wouldn’t think too similar but I might think that it’s a little thematic/cutesy (but not enough for a parent to care!).

But some possibilities, Watson &

Fletcher
Murphy
Spencer
Tolliver
Rafferty
Thatcher
Alasdair
Forester
Sullivan
Oscar
Emerson
Tobias
Sterling
Marshall
Merritt
Callahan
Beckett
Everett
Howard
Bastien

Too similar I would say! The closest with vibe to [name_m]Webster[/name_m] while still being a W name would be [name_m]Whittaker[/name_m] and that works as it sounds more distinct from [name_m]Watson[/name_m].

Other W names that would work, I think (either different initial vowel or different type of ending sound):

[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Winslow[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Wesley[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Warrick[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Worth[/name_m]
[name_m]Watson[/name_m] & [name_m]Wayne[/name_m]

Hopefully these help!

I like it! Especially with nickname “Webb” … Watty and [name_m]Webb[/name_m] are too cute for words!

Other W ideas…. [name_m]Woodrow[/name_m], [name_m]Wade[/name_m], [name_m]Warner[/name_m]?

I feel like the sounds of the names are different enough that it works! They both start with W and are similar in length , but the sounds besides that feel very different to me.

Other names that feel similar to [name_m]Webster[/name_m] though…
[name_m]Simon[/name_m]
[name_m]Calvin[/name_m]
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m]
[name_m]Beau[/name_m]
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]
[name_m]Rhett[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_m]Zane[/name_m]
[name_m]Flynn[/name_m]
[name_m]Harris[/name_m]
[name_f]Quinn[/name_f]
[name_m]Keller[/name_m]
