How to get the nns Tommy and Bobby

Hey,

I was wondering what names you could hypothetically use to get to [name_m]Tommy[/name_m] and [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] as a nickname. I rather like them, and of course I know there’s [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_m]Robert[/name_m], but am thinking that there’ll probably be some more exciting/unexpected full names.

Any ideas? [name_f]TIA[/name_f].

[name_m]Ottomar[/name_m] nn [name_m]Tommy[/name_m] perhaps?

Thompson
Tomlin

That’s all I can come up with.

For Bobby, I think any name with rob- will do:

Robin
Robinson

Or names that end in a -bo sound:

Jacobo
Thibault

Or maybe even long or hefty names that start with bo- and are begging for a cute nn:

Boaz
Bolivar
Bonaventure
Borromeo

Would you be interested in international variants of [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_m]Robert[/name_m] that are more unusual and interesting?

[name_m]Tamerlane[/name_m] could work for [name_m]Tommy[/name_m], but it might be a bit out there for you. [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] would work too, as it has a T, M and O in it, but would be confusing since Timothys usually go by [name_m]Tim[/name_m] or [name_m]Timmy[/name_m]. [name_u]Robin[/name_u] could be an alternative for [name_u]Bobby[/name_u].

I like @bonfireazalea’s recommendation of looking at international variations!

Posting again because another idea for [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] just popped into mind—I think it could be a cute nickname for [name_u]Oberon[/name_u].

Thank you everyone!

@bonfireazalea, I checked out both links, Didn’t find anything nicer than [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], but I discovered that [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] (which I already like) is a [name_m]Robert[/name_m] variant . . . surprise surprise! So I guess [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] could work for that.

@ceryle, I really like [name_u]Oberon[/name_u]! Though I think I do prefer [name_u]Auberon[/name_u]. [name_u]Robin[/name_u]'s very much my style but it seems a bit silly have a nn as long as the full name! Could maybe get on board with [name_m]Robinson[/name_m], though surname names aren’t usually what I go for. I’ll look into [name_m]Bolivar[/name_m] too.

@roseofjune, I quite like [name_m]Ottomar[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Otto[/name_m] more atm, but names tend to grow on me, so we’ll see! Thank you!

@lovemysweeties - I know, it’s hard, isn’t it?! [name_m]Tomlin[/name_m] hasn’t been on my radar before - I’ll think about it. [name_m]Thompson[/name_m] just makes me think of Tintin . . . :frowning:

[name_m]Tommy[/name_m] - [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], [name_u]Tatum[/name_u], [name_u]Thames[/name_u], [name_m]Thurman[/name_m], [name_m]Timothy[/name_m], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_u]Tobin[/name_u], [name_u]Toby[/name_u], Tomer, [name_m]Tomlinson[/name_m], [name_m]Truman[/name_m]

You could also go with a FN/MN combo that incorporates the sounds/letters [name_m]TOM[/name_m] – so for example, [name_u]Toby[/name_u] [name_m]Melvin[/name_m], [name_m]Tucker[/name_m] [name_m]Omry[/name_m], [name_m]Troy[/name_m] O’[name_f]Malley[/name_f], [name_m]Tanner[/name_m] [name_m]Osmond[/name_m]…

[name_u]Bobby[/name_u] – [name_m]Bolton[/name_m], [name_m]Boniface[/name_m], [name_m]Bosley[/name_m], [name_m]Boswell[/name_m], [name_m]Bowers[/name_m], [name_m]Bowman[/name_m], [name_m]Hobbes[/name_m], [name_m]Jacoby[/name_m], [name_m]Obama[/name_m], [name_m]Obie[/name_m], [name_m]Obrien[/name_m]/[name_m]Obrian[/name_m], [name_m]Rober[/name_m], [name_m]Robertson[/name_m], [name_m]Theobald[/name_m], [name_u]Toby[/name_u], [name_m]Tobiah[/name_m], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_u]Tobin[/name_u], Zenobias

Again, I think I FN/MN combo could work in a few ways here, either with just [name_u]BO[/name_u], [name_m]BOB[/name_m] or [name_m]ROB[/name_m] or even just OB in same cases… for example, [name_u]Beau[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Braxton[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_u]Remington[/name_u] [name_u]Blake[/name_u], [name_u]Rex[/name_u] [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_f]Orian[/name_f] [name_m]Bosley[/name_m]…
