How to get to Ben

[name]Do[/name] you prefer [name]Benjamin[/name] or [name]Benedict[/name] to get to [name]Ben[/name] as NN? We are Catholic so I think the pope association could be nice but we already have [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] on our list is that too much pope? The MN will most likely be [name]Andrew[/name] if that helps.

Two sons named [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] and [name]Benedict[/name] might be obvious to even the most hardened atheist, but if you’re consciously seeking to honor the popes, then they’re both lovely and complimentary. I find [name]Benedict[/name] to be a lot more interesting than [name]Benjamin[/name] (which is certainly unobjectionable); I also like the French version [name]Benoit[/name], or Italian [name]Benito[/name] (hopefully not entirely spoiled by Mussolini).

An unrelated but very interesting name is [name]German[/name] [name]Benno[/name], which is a saints name. Also:

[name]Alban[/name] (British saint)
[name]Bennett[/name] (English variant of [name]Benjamin[/name])
Esben (bear of God, in Danish)
Torben (Thors bear, prob not OK in the church)
[name]Benton[/name]
[name]Benson[/name]

Would [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] be going as [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] all the time? [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] could also be seen as an homage to [name]John[/name] [name]Lennon[/name] & [name]Paul[/name] McCartney from The Beatles.

I don’t think [name]Benedict[/name] and [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] are too religious. (If there could ever be such a thing.)

I think that [name]Benjamin[/name] is very common and would love to hear of a little boy named [name]Benedict[/name] [name]Andrew[/name]. Extremely handome!

@blade- [name]Bennett[/name] coud be nice to I had not really thought about it before.

@irmgard- [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] could go as [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] all the time though I have toyed with the idea of [name]Jack[/name] and JP for NNs.

Thank you both for the opinions

I like [name]Benedict[/name] much more than [name]Benjamin[/name], although, tbh, I love all [name]Ben[/name] names. I quite like [name]Bennett[/name], too, although I do think I prefer [name]Benedict[/name] (especially for you). While you know I’m not the hugest [name]Andrew[/name] fan, I do think [name]Benedict[/name] [name]Andrew[/name] is quite nice. So are [name]Bennett[/name] [name]Andrew[/name]/[name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Andrew[/name]… or even [name]Reuben[/name] [name]Andrew[/name]…

My last name has been mentioned a couple times on this thread, haha. It’s a good name. I’d probably even consider it if I hadn’t grown up with the name.

I’m not generally a fan of the name [name]Benedict[/name], but it’s growing on me. I definitely prefer [name]Benjamin[/name]. It’s such a classic.

I would be far, far more likely to use [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Reuben[/name] or Benzion than [name]Benedict[/name], but I’m coming from a very different cultural background. If you’re celebrating being Catholic I don’t see anything wrong with [name]Benedict[/name].

[name]Benjamin[/name] is more neutral and easy-going though. [name]Reuben[/name] and Benzion are not, really, just “different” in a different way.

I do think if [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] goes by [name]John[/name], that [name]John[/name] and [name]Benjamin[/name] go together well.

If you want something more distintive than [name]Benjamin[/name] for your little [name]Ben[/name], then there is always [name]Benvolio[/name] which I have been mildly in love with since reading “[name]Romeo[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name]” last term in school. However out of the the options of [name]Benjamin[/name] and [name]Benedict[/name] I prefer [name]Benjamin[/name], because I’m sorry to say that [name]Benedict[/name] makes me think of eggs.

I think [name]Benedict[/name] and [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] are perfectly fine together! I really like them, to be honest. I prefer [name]Benedict[/name] over [name]Benjamin[/name]. If you’re looking for something else, I’ll second the recommendation of [name]Bennett[/name].

I think [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] and [name]Benedict[/name] are a bit too much, but I usually try to avoid biblical names anyway.

I do love [name]Benedict[/name], [name]Bennet[/name] and [name]Benjamin[/name]. I would go with [name]Bennet[/name] first, because of the literary connection with Pride and Prejudice. Followed be [name]Benedict[/name], because it is less common.

Honestly, [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] + any of the [name]Ben[/name] names names here are pretty swoon worthy. I don’t think that [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] and [name]Benedict[/name]/[name]Benjamin[/name] are too much. [name]Reuben[/name] and [name]Bennet[/name] are nice as well. I guess it would really come down to what you’d want to use for the middle, then I could pick more effectively once I saw the pairing. But any of them are really nice.
