I recently heard the nm [name_m]Zell[/name_m] and fell in love with the sound. My maiden name begins with a Z and I have always wanted to incorporate Zs into my future child’s name. We never found a girl Z full name that we loved, but I’d be happy with a Z nm. My husband and I like classic, familiar, and simple names (hopefully also Hebrew because we are Jewish)…but maybe there is a way to get to [name_m]Zell[/name_m] that we are missing??
There’s [name_f]Zelda[/name_f].
First I thought of was [name_f]Azalea[/name_f]. Not Jewish, but a floral name and that seems popular now. [name_m]Zell[/name_m] seems like it could be a nn. Also thought of [name_f]Aliza[/name_f], or spelled [name_f]Aleeza[/name_f], which is Hebrew for joyful. I think you could still use the nn [name_m]Zell[/name_m] for this as well, even though the L and Z are switched.
Also, there is [name_f]Zelia[/name_f], Hebrew for zealous.
I don’t see why you can’t use names like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Raizel[/name_f], [name_f]Zelpha[/name_f]/[name_f]Zilpha[/name_f]/[name_f]Zilpah[/name_f] or [name_f]Moselle[/name_f] to get [name_m]Zell[/name_m] as a nickname. [name_f]Griselda[/name_f] would be another option but it’s not very attractive.
I’ve heard Maizel a few times.
I like Azalea, Hazel, and Eliza all to get Zell.
I’m also a big fan of Zs. Nicknames are sometimes pretty far off of the original name and you can get away with a lot I think.
Some of my favorites you can see in my sig are Zuzana (for Susannah which means lily or rose, which are both the same as the Hebrew name Shoshanna–Zuzana, Susannah, and Shoshanna are all in my top faves), Zorah, and Zara.
They are a lot further away but some people combine first and middle for NN also. Example: Zara Helen, nn Zell/Zella. Easy peasy
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] would my choice for a name with [name_m]Zell[/name_m] as a nn. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is another great choice or even [name_f]Liza[/name_f].
I like the idea of [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] going by [name_m]Zell[/name_m]!
Feeling inspired! Thanks for the suggestions!
[name_m]Just[/name_m] want to throw [name_f]Giselle[/name_f] out there, I think it’s lovely and naturally lends itself to the nn [name_m]Zell[/name_m]
I agree with [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. I also like [name_m]Zel[/name_m]! First heard it as the title of a book where it was short for [name_f]Rapunzel[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] seems like the perfect option.
I’m a [name_f]Zelia[/name_f] and I’ve gone by [name_m]Zel[/name_m].
I love all of these suggestions. My favorite, which hasn’t been mentioned, is [name_f]Raizel[/name_f], a Yiddish form of [name_f]Rachel[/name_f].
[name_f]Zelia[/name_f] (and the [name_m]French[/name_m] form, [name_f]Zelie[/name_f]!) was my first thought, but I also like [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_f]Giselle[/name_f] as suggestions. I think [name_f]Zelia[/name_f] is brilliant, honestly. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] meaning and it is a Hebrew name.
