[name_f]My[/name_f] mother’s middle name is [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]… She is the most supportive and amazing mother ever and i want to honor her through naming my kid after her, but her first name is out of the question because it is super long and there are no variations, so i come to [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]. It is too old lady for my style, what else could i use? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] could honor her?
What about [name_f]Elaina[/name_f]? I think it’s really pretty! Or [name_f]Lainey[/name_f]? [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_u]Lane[/name_u] as a middle name.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the nn [name_f]Lainey[/name_f]. I agree with pp. [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] (or [name_f]Elena[/name_f]) with nn [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] would be lovely.
With respect, I find it a little odd to say you’re naming a baby after someone and then use a variant on their middle name - to me the connection is way too tenuous to be considered an honour name.
I’d use her FN or MN - or even maiden name- with no variants, and if you really can’t stomach them, ask her to help choose a name. I think any of these would be way more meaningful than something about three times removed from her actual name.
Besides which I like [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] in the MN position.
But if you are determined, then Elaide is a [name_f]Helen[/name_f] variant so maybe [name_f]Helen[/name_f] or [name_f]Helene[/name_f] or [name_f]Helena[/name_f] would also work.
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] would be lovely!
