How to honour Lee or Claire?

So I would really like to honour my mother or grandmother as a middle name. It would be paired with a fn (probably from my signature) and another mn, [name_f]Iris[/name_f]

The problem being that I don’t like many names that end with “[name_u]Lee[/name_u]” ([name_f]Kaylee[/name_f], [name_f]Haylee[/name_f], [name_f]Kylie[/name_f], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] etc). So far the only one I like is [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] (AY-lee). [name_f]Claire[/name_f] I have not got any ideas for besides [name_f]Clara[/name_f] which my grandma hated so it would be weird to use it.

Thank you for your help, berries!

If you don’t really like names with -lee, don’t use that kinda name. If you want to honor your mother why not pick a name that her grandmother or another relative that meant a lot to her had?

Why not use [name_f]Claire[/name_f]? [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]?

If you don’t like [name_f]Claire[/name_f] maybe you could find a name with the same meaning as [name_f]Claire[/name_f]?

I like that idea. I did try to push “meadow” but hubby doesn’t generally like word names. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know of names that are similar to meadow? That mean field or plain?

[name_f]Claire[/name_f] is super easy to slide in the middle spot alongside [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is lovely, so is [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f].
When it comes to honour names I am a fan of using the actual name, rather than trying to find a convoluted way of nodding in the general direction of the name, for me that loses the meaning somewhat.

Since [name_f]Claire[/name_f] means bright/clear, maybe: [name_f]Alina[/name_f], [name_f]Elaine[/name_f], [name_f]Clarinda[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_f]Helen[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f]

Apperently [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] means “bright meadow” but you don’t like -lee names

[name_u]Hayden[/name_u] or [name_u]Blair[/name_u] are the only ones that means meadow or field and doesnt end in -lee.

I do like [name_f]Claire[/name_f] as second middle name with [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] or [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f].

What about [name_f]Leanne[/name_f] or [name_f]Lenora[/name_f]? [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] or [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Leanne[/name_f] IrisI also really like [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u].

Have you though about using [name_f]Lea[/name_f]/[name_f]Leah[/name_f]?

@suzywoo: I think I agree with you but I like looking at all the options - especially with a picky hubby :stuck_out_tongue:

@xandraswede: thank you for all of these, I love the meaning of [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] but I don’t like the sound. All the others are lovely

@paw: love all of these, especially [name_f]Lenore[/name_f]! You’ve also made me reconsider [name_f]Claire[/name_f] - just a new perspective I suppose

@namelyobsessed unfortunately, both hubby and I have bad experiences with the name.

Keep em coming guys!

I love the name [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f], but she will have to pronounce and spell that for people her whole life. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Clara[/name_f] or [name_f]Leah[/name_f]?
