I didn’t vote because I would actually pronounce this the [name]German[/name] way: Brih-[name]GEE[/name]-tuh. Out of the two you listed, however, I guess I’d be more likely to say BRIH-jet than brih-ZHEET.
~[name]Frances[/name]
I also immediately thought of the [name]German[/name] pronunciation, but I suppose I would go with the French pronunciation with this spelling, rather than the more familiar bridge-it.
I’d pronounce it the [name]German[/name] way as well.
[name]Hi[/name] everybody,
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer the poll. I never thought people would think of the [name]German[/name] prononciation! We are in [name]Canada[/name] so we will welcome both the English and the French way, hopefully [name]Brigitte[/name] will like both!
I voted both…this is based on my experience with my own name…having it pronounced differently in English, French…and then completely different in Spanish (:
what do you tell people to call you?
I would pronounce it like [name]BRI[/name]-GEET-UH too. I would spell [name]BRIDGE[/name]-IT Like [name]Bridget[/name]
I would pronounce it [name]Bri[/name] [name]GEE[/name] tuh

I introduce myself in the English version but am pretty easy going as to what pronunciation people chose to call me. also depends where I am …in [name]Quebec[/name] definitely French…in Mexico…Spanish…etc.
I’d pronounce [name]Brigitte[/name] - bri-JEET and [name]Bridget[/name] - [name]BRID[/name]-jit.
[name]Hope[/name] that helps, [name]Caoimhe[/name]

Thanks. sounds good! I was wondering if we would impact our daughters’ psychology by calling them both different names in different languages, me in English, my husband in French! Sounds like you deal with it very well being called different names depending where you are.
I normally say brih-GHEET. (:
