I pronounce it joo-lee-et.
I agree with pp, joo-lee-et. I think I put the most emphasis on the “ette” bit.
I didnt think there was more than one pronunciation for [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], I have only ever heard joo-lee-et
I don’t place a major emphasis on any of the syllables, but I guess I place the most on the -et.
I pronounce [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] as Joo-lee-ETTE.
Agree with pps- to me, it’s pronounced with 3 syllables- joo-lee-et. I would more naturally put emphasis on the -ET but could see the first syllable too
I say “ju-lee-ET”, but I’ve heard it pronounced more like “JOO-lyut” too. Mostly by older, RP-style English speakers.
I pronounce it [name_u]Julie[/name_u]-et.
Mind blown. I thought it was pronounced JOO-lyut in English… but going by what previous posters have said ju-lee-ET is not only a possible pronunciation too, but seems more common too based on previous posters’ replies?
I say JU-lee-et.
I pronounce it joo-lee-ET, and remember basically everyone at school and all the teachers pronouncing it that way too when we did [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] in English class.
I’m surprised at the discrepancy between the poll and the responses- JOO-lee-et has more votes in the poll but almost everyone in the comments has said they say joo-lee-ET!
I say JOO-lee-ət - three syllables, but emphasis on the first syllable, with the last being a schwa. [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] would be ju-LYET to me. I’m really surprised to see the other replies here! I’m [name_m]Franco[/name_m]-British and I have the same distinction between [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]: the first is [name_f]VIV[/name_f]-ee-ən, the second is veev-YEN.
I dont really understand the pronunciations you have written out.
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] pronounced Joo-lee-ett, like [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f].
I suppose I place the emphasis on the -ET part. I really don’t see how putting it on the JUL- part would work, nor have I ever heard anyone say it that way. I say [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] the same way.
